In pictures: Angela Merkel's visit to the UK
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on a one-day visit to the UK, has given a historic address to both Houses of Parliament and taken part in a rather more informal meeting in Prime Minister David Cameron's Downing Street flat.
She also had tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Prior to that, the German chancellor hailed her country's "close partnership" with the UK during her address in the royal gallery of the Palace of Westminster, adding that they shared the goal of a "strong and competitive" European Union.
Mrs Merkel delivered most of the speech in German but closed, as she had begun, in English saying: "United and determined we can bring our values and interests to bear in the world."
After her address, Mrs Merkel and Labour leader Ed Miliband held talks.
She met other MPs and peers before heading to 10 Downing Street for a working lunch with David Cameron.
Mrs Merkel was greeted warmly by the prime minister, who sees the German leader as crucial to his aims in Europe.
After lunch, the two centre-right leaders held a joint press conference at Downing Street - with Mrs Merkel joking she had specifically chosen to wear a blue jacket to offset against the red carpet laid out for her visit.
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg and Mrs Merkel met for talks during her busy day-long trip.
Mrs Merkel's last official appointment was at Buckingham Palace, with crowds of tourists gathering at the gates to watch her departure.
