Image caption A resident of Bunol, near Valencia in Spain, pulls back the protective sheeting during the annual Tomatina festival. About 160 tonnes of ripe tomatoes were offloaded from trucks into a crowd of 22,000 revellers for an hour-long battle. The festival was actually inspired by a food fight between local children in 1945.
