Game of Thrones recruits Lovejoy

Ian McShane

British actor Ian McShane is to play a small but pivotal role in the next series of Game of Thrones, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Apparently sources say McShane "has a relatively small amount of screen-time during the season, yet his character is of key importance".

McShane shot to fame as an antique dealer in Lovejoy (sounds like a Westeros-type name) and currently stars in the news series of Ray Donovan, opposite Liev Schreiber.

Zayn's 'heart was not in One Direction'

One Direction

One Direction's Liam Payne spoke with BBC Radio 1's Grimmy this morning and talked about Zayn Malik's departure from the band and the surprise new single they released on Friday.

The singer said One Direction "was never Zayn's sort of music", adding:

If your heart's not into something you can’t just carry on doing it because it’s fame and stuff - you have got to do what you want to do.

He’s off doing his own thing at the moment which is cool for him, but it's nice that we kind of banded together. I feel like we’re stronger than ever now which is strange, but it's worked out really nicely for everybody. Obviously he’s really happy and congratulations to him on his new record deal.

One Direction fans were surprised last week when the band released a new single, Drag Me Down, without any previous publicity. Liam said the song had now been added to the set list of the US leg of their tour, adding the band had now finished making their latest album - in hotel rooms with mattresses on the walls.

We’re really enjoying the music – we’ve got to the point now where I feel like this is the music we’ve always wanted to release.

Fancy a bit of culture this autumn?

Surprise Cilla fan?

Amid the outpouring of tributes to singer and presenter Cilla Black, is

this one from Morrissey.

"Cilla Black, RIP.

"There's no way back to the world you knew. The Smiths covered Cilla's Work Is A Four-letter Word, just as they covered Twinkle's Golden Lights (Twinkle also died this year), just as I covered Lynn Anderson's Rose Garden, and of course, Lynn slipped away last week.

"Never stationary throughout the 1960s, Cilla Black made some great records - The Right One Is Left, Suffer Now I Must, It's For You, I've Been Wrong Before, What Good Am I?

"I'm very grateful for the songs, and it never occurred to me that such people could die."

Cilla - latest updates

  • The BBC's Tom Burridge says a post-mortem on the body of Cilla Black has been completed in Spain, however the results may take a few days to be published.
  • ITV has confirmed it will be showing its drama, Cilla, starring Sheridan Smith on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week at 22:40 BST.

One Direction force star out of hotel room

Actress Eliza Dushku has been staying in the same Pittsburgh hotel room for the past two months while filming the TV series Banshee - but not anymore thanks to One Direction.

The star was forced to move out on Friday as the band booked up the whole floor ahead of their gig in the city on Sunday.

She posted a picture of all her belongings on a trolley, saying: "Don't worry  @OneDirection . It was super chill movin outta my hotel room so u can have the ENTIRE FLOOR I've been staying on for 2 months. Took 2 hrs this Friday afternoon before work."

She later tweeted she had no hard feelings towards to the band - joking they could make it up to her with some free tickets - or the hotel staff.

Emmerdale crash episodes criticised

Hundreds of people have signed a petition asking ITV to withdraw an Emmerdale storyline about a helicopter crash.

Kerry McGhee, whose father was one of 10 people killed when a helicopter crashed into the Clutha bar in Glasgow in November 2013, is among the signatories.

She said: "I find it disgusting that people want to use it as a storyline."

ITV said it always "considers carefully the content of its programming".

Fantastic Four

Are the stars of the new Fantastic Four movie preparing themselves for a flop?

Miles Teller, who plays Reed Richards, aka Mr Stretch, said: "Rarely are films of this size critically well received.

"This is not a movie we're going to go on (review website) Rotten Tomatoes and it's going to be at 80 or 90%."

A little defeatist perhaps? Then again, there haven't been any press showings for the movie which doesn't bode well.

Cilla Black - latest update

Tom Burridge

Madrid correspondent

The results of the post-mortem, which should take place today in Malaga, might not be published by the authorities here in Southern Spain for several days.

Yesterday Spanish police told me their initial assessment was that Cilla Black died of "natural causes".

However, we understand one possible theory is that the hot weather might have been a factor. I also understand one of Black’s sons was at her house when she died on Saturday afternoon.

Last night flowers were left at the gate of her villa in Estepona - the message read: "RIP Cilla Black, with love, from all your British fans in Spain."
