And that's a wrap

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Well, we made it folks. We battled through the night, through the ups and the downs, through the tears and the laughter and at the end of it all... the result was the same.

No one made any gains tonight, except for me, I think I gained about half a stone.

One ward remains in City of Lincoln elections

Just Birchwood left to declare this morning, a good day at the office for Labour here in Lincoln so far and it looks likely to end that way.

Another good result for Labour, they've taken one seat from the Conservatives in Hartsholme.

Bit of musical chairs at the Drill Hall this morning. The Birchwood team has swapped with Hartsholme.

It's actually Birchwood that has gone for a second re-count not Hartshomle.

Not everyone wants to stick it out until the bitter end however. Looks like the end of a school disco at the Drill Hall now.

There's two wards left, both went to a recount however there is talk of a second recount in Hartsholme.

'Business as usual' for the Conservatives

Michael Hortin

Assistant Editor, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

I've been speaking to Keith Weaver, a Conservative councillor for Witham.

He's told me that whilst they weren't expecting to wrest overall control from Labour they were looking to make some gains.

We were hoping for ten but things haven't turned out that way tonight.

'Wesminster bubble' doesn't matter in Lincoln says Council Leader

Martin Slack

BBC Lincolnshire Live

I've caught up with Ric Metcalfe after the news that his party has won.

He told me that national politics and the various issues that have engulfed the Labour party as of late clearly haven't had an effect on the party's support in Lincoln.

He's got to be happy that they've managed to maintain control but no doubt his eye will be on the national picture.

BreakingLabour retain Abbey Ward and Carholme Wards

All six have kept the seats red.

These two also included some of the council's top brass the Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Regeneration, for Environmental Services and Public Protection and for Holder for Housing

867 each for Hanrahan and Nannestad

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Jim Hanrahan and Donald Nannestad both got 867 votes, normally the longer term goes to whoever gets the most so the dead-heat means they have to draw a name out of a hat.

Yes, really.

Anyway lady luck was on Mr Nannestad's side and he's in his seat for four years.

Conservative PCC candidate says reaction to his campaign 'mixed'

Michael Hortin

Assistant Editor, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Like all the candidates Marc Jones has been canvassing the county and he says he's gotten some mixed reactions on the doorsteps.

He says some have engaged but a lot of people feel they haven't been given enough information about the role.

He feels that as the role is still relatively new (politically speaking anyway) central Government should have done more to promote it and sell people on the concept.

He also blasted the voting process for PCC, saying that the second vote system often leads to people choosing the "least worst option" rather than the candidate they really want.

Turnout for Castle Ward 30.14%

Not exceptionally high but not dismally low either.

BreakingLabour hold Glebe Ward

Liberal Democrats keen for rehabilitation

Martin Slack

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Ross Pepper from the Liberal Democrats has been speaking to me.

He's optimistic but doesn't really expect his party to gain a seat in Lincoln tonight but nationally he thinks things are beginning to look up for the Lib Dems.

We know its going to be a tough year after the obliteration we experienced last year... but people are engaging with us again.

Not everyone too keen on new Mayor for Lincolnshire

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Mayor-talk is going to play a big part of the next 24 hours, rumours swirl that Andy Burnham is going to run in Manchester and all eyes are on London to see who will take over from Boris Johnson.

George Osbourne announced in the latest budget that Lincolnshire is to get its own mayor but that decision hasn't proved popular with everybody.

Council leader predicts results coming back earlier than expected

Michael Hortin

Assistant Editor, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

I've just been speaking to the City of Lincoln Council Leader Ric Metcalfe, who says he fully expects the results to be announced earlier than 4am.

He also says he'd be surprised if any results came back a different colour than red or blue, he believes the other parties simply haven't managed to "establish a political base".

The leader of UKIP Nigel Farage came to Lincoln on Wednesday, clearly he wants to change that.

Lincoln and Labour's fate entwined?

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

At twenty seven councillors to the Tory's six it's safe to say that Labour currently have a comfortable majority on the City of Lincoln Council.

But could that change? Our Political Editior Laura Kuenssberg says things aren't looking good for Labour across the country:

View more on twitter

Lincoln stayed blue in the last General Election, re-electing Karl McCartney but has traditionally been red when it comes to the council.

A slip in that majority could be a sign of a grim night for Labour nationally but equally an increase could point to good things for Her Majesty's Opposition.
