BreakingBoy in 'critical condition' after being pulled from swimming pool

We have some developing news just in from Luton... 

We've heard a young boy has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after getting into difficulties in a swimming pool. 

An ambulance was called to the Lewsey Park pool in Pastures Way this morning. A child was pulled from the water unconscious and taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. 

We'll bring you more on this story on our bulletins tonight at 18:30 and 23:00.

Dunstable man jailed for sexual abuse

A man from Dunstable who sexually abused two women across the 1980s and '90s has been jailed for 20 years.

John Burden, 49, from Maidenbower Avenue, groomed them when they were children, raped them before they were 16 and continued to abuse them.

Judge Michael Kay, at Luton Crown Court, told Burden he continued to pose a danger to women.

Policeman's daughter to open apartment named in his honour

The daughter of a policeman killed in the line of duty is to open an apartment on a housing development named in his honour.

The 57 apartments in Luton's Leagrave High Street are in Jonathan Henry Place, named after PC Henry who died while answering a emergency call in George Street in June 2007.

Maggie Henry is opening the apartment, which is the 14,000th home built by Paradigm Housing Group.

Guinea pig found wounded and dumped by bins

A young guinea pig was found dumped by bins on a housing estate in Hemel Hempstead, with a wound that hadn't been treated.

The boar, now named Perry, after where he was found in Perry Green, was left in a cramped and dirty hamster cage.

RSPCA officer Kate Wright said they don't know "how he came to be" left in this way.

Perry is staying at Ms Wright's guinea pig rescue centre at the moment and has completed a course of antibiotics.

Travel: Problems on the M25

There is queuing traffic and a lane is closed on the exit slip road of the M25 clockwise at J20 due to a broken down lorry.

Traffic is also queuing on the M25 anticlockwise and one lane closed at J19.

Defending Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, from Hertfordshire, says his first win of 2016 is evidence he is as good as ever following a difficult start to the season.

Victory in Monaco was his first in seven months and cut Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg's title lead to 24 points.

Buzz at Luton Airport - no, not the England team now...

There's been a bit of a buzz around Luton Airport today - and we're not just talking about the England Euro 2016 team flying out this morning.

A swarm of bees tried to set up home near the control tower, so the Bedfordshire Bee Keepers Association (BBKA) were called in to help.

Jenny and John from the BBKA took the bees to a new home in Leighton Buzz-ard.

Poulter named Ryder Cup vice-captain

Woburn's Ian Poulter has been named one of Europe's vice-captains for the Ryder Cup after being ruled out of this year's event with injury.

The Englishman, 40, announced on Friday he will be out for four months with arthritic problems in his right foot.

Poulter said he was "truly honoured", adding: "Everyone who knows me knows how much the Ryder Cup means."

Step Inside Love: Cilla's Buckinghamshire house up for sale

Cilla Black's eight-bedroom mansion in Denham has been put on the market for £4.35m.

The house, built in 1912, is set at the end of a private gated drive on 17 acres of land and boasts a leisure complex with indoor pool and spa, paddock, tennis court and a detached two-bedroom cottage with its own garage.

The Liverpool Echo has reported the sale - complete with pictures of the mansion which show "a home in a whole other world to Cilla’s humble Scotland Road beginnings" in the city, where she lived in a flat above a barber shop.

Man who 'rubbed machete and saw together' jailed

A man who stood outside a home in Milton Keynes rubbing a machete and a saw together has been jailed for seven months.


The 29-year-old, from Newton Leys, had threatened a man in Fishermead before returning to Pengelly Court with the weapons.

He pleaded guilty to possession of bladed articles in a public place.

Saima Khan death: Murder charge sister in crown court

The sister of care worker Saima Khan, who died of serious injuries at her home in Luton, has made her first appearance in crown court today, where she is charged with murder.

Sabah Khan, 26, of Newark Road, Luton, was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge and was remanded in custody.

Mother-of-four Saima Khan, 34, was found with serious injuries at their shared home in Overstone Road. She died at the scene.

Judge Richard Foster fixed a trial date for 21 November.

The England team are boarding their plane at Luton Airport to fly to France ready for Euro 2016.

In the bottom left photograph is Milton Keynes' Dele Alli (pictured right), who last year celebrated promotion to the Championship with MK Dons.

Since then, he's joined Spurs, narrowly missed out on the Premier League title, been picked for the England squad... and watched the Dons get relegated again.

Stolen Ford Mustang: Police reach end of road in investigations

You may or may not remember that back in November, Hertfordshire Police put out an appeal for a classic red Ford Mustang that had been stolen from a garage in Welwyn Garden City at some point over the last 20 years...

Well, over the weekend we heard the latest from police on the matter - they've reached the end of the road in their investigations.

The 1977 Mustang, registration VTM 648S, was last seen by the family in 1995. It was discovered the car was missing when the owner died and his daughter checked the garage.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Cilla Black's Buckinghamshire home has been put on the market by her sons for the pricely sum of £4.3m.

The newspaper writes the late singer and television presenter bought the eight-bedroom property in 1970.

Cilla Black, who began her music career in 1963, died last August at the age of 72.

Man punched in Hertford car park

A 56-year-old man remains in hospital after being punched during an altercation in Hertford with five young men.

The man was punched in the car park of Hartham Common on 30 May at about 00:30. He suffered injuries to his head after banging it on a kerb.

The group are described as white males, aged between 16 and 20. They wore dark puffa jackets and jeans. The victim is in a stable condition.

Rutherford fails to make Birmingham long jump final

Milton Keynes long jumper Greg Rutherford suffered a rare defeat in the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham.

He was well down on the form which saw him win in Rome last week as part of an unbeaten run going back to last July.

The reigning world, Olympic and European champion led briefly with a first round 8.17m, but with America's Marquise Goodwin going out to 8.42m in the second round, Rutherford found himself first under pressure - and then out of jumps - after three other men pushed him into fifth.

The family of a girl from Luton who was knocked over and killed have called for buses to be banned from parts of the town.

Three-year-old Mayah Shazad died when she was hit by a bus in the Bury Park area in 2014. An inquest ruled it was a "tragic accident," concluding no-one was responsible for the death.

Luton Borough Council has started consulting on traffic management plans, but Mayah's uncle Zulfiqar Imtiaz says he won't rest until they stop running through the area.

There is definitely room for improvement and my family and the community will fight until buses stop going through Bury Park because they are dangerous."

Man arrested after Hitchin knife attack

A man has been arrested after a woman was attacked with a knife while out walking with a friend in Hitchin on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, in her 20s and from Luton, was on Oughtonhead Common at 16:50 when she was attacked. She required stitches for what police describe as a "superficial wound".

A 47-year-old man, from Hitchin, has been arrested on suspicion of assault, but police are appealing for witnesses.

Det Con Kathryn Marshall said: “This is a highly unusual incident in a quiet area of Hitchin, however the public are asked to remain vigilant."

As well as England due to head out to the Euros this morning, speculation on the transfer merry-go-round continues.

This morning all eyes are on Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and whether he will make the move to Arsenal. You may not think this has anything to to with our local clubs, but the Mirror is reporting that if Leicester lose their striker, they'll make a move for Watford captain Troy Deeney.

The England team are due to fly out to France for Euro 2016 from Luton Airport this morning.

The squad has been warming up at Watford's training ground in London Colney ahead of the tournament.

Before the flight, at about 11:30, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is expected to decide whether or not he will be a regular sight in Hertfordshire.

Arsenal, who also train in London Colney, have offered the striker a four-year deal with a significantly higher wage. But Leicester are reportedly in the process of offering the 29-year-old, who signed a new three-year contract in February, an improved deal of their own.

The historic Flying Scotsman caused a bit of a stir in the area at the weekend.

Many spectators lined its route through Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire on Saturday to view the locomotive on its way to York.

Despite warnings telling people not to trespass on the railway, crew members said that once again they saw a number of people on the tracks as it passed by.

A woman charged with the murder of her sister in Luton two weeks ago is due to appear at the crown court later today.

Sabah Khan, 26, from Newark Road in Luton, was remanded in custody when she appeared before magistrates last Thursday accused of killing 34-year-old mother-of-four Saima Khan (pictured).

Mrs Khan was found with serious injuries at her home in Overstone Road on 23 May and died at the scene.
