'Glad to have helped'

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey tells us: "When Sir Jack was taken around the Wolves Museum and I showed him the Hall of Fame which he is now part of - he signed the visitors' book. He wrote 'Glad to have helped'."

The chief executive adds: "It think that just sums up the humility of him. We're all very sad and he'll be sorely missed."

He also called for fans to get behind the club tonight for the FA Cup replay against Fulham - "it was one of his favourite competitions".

Nick Owen

Presenter, Midlands Today

We've all been taken aback in the Midlands Today office this afternoon by the news that Sir Jack Hayward has died. He was an absolute gent who I was privileged to meet and interview on a number of occasions.

Sir Jack Hayward

Sir Jack saved his beloved boyhood home town club of Wolverhampton Wanderers from extinction back in 1990 and poured an estimated £70m of his own fortune into the club, eventually leading them from the lower reaches of the league into the Premier League.

We'll be reporting live from Molineux this evening, a stadium he transformed, and hearing tributes to Sir Jack.

Farm house burglar jailed

A man who burgled a country house in Balsall Common, tying the owner to a radiator for 10 hours, has been jailed for 12 years.

Christopher Bochno
West midlands police

Police say Christopher Bochno (pictured) was traced after his

DNA was found on a drink bottle he'd tossed into a nearby hedge.

He and two other masked men tied the 65-year-old woman to a radiator before threatening to burn her feet with an iron and shoot her dogs unless demands for horses worth £500,000 were met.

Black armbands will be worn

Wolves says players will wear black armbands and there will be a minute's silence before tonight's FA Cup third round replay with Fulham.

A full tribute to Sir Jack Hayward's life and achievements will be made before Saturday's home game with Blackpool.

Watch: Sir Jack tribute

Wolves have released this tribute to Sir Jack Hayward, which was first shown when he was inducted into Wolves Hall of Fame in 2011.

Ill for several months

BBC Sport

Sir Jack Hayward had been ill for several months and died earlier today.

He was at the helm when Wolves were

promoted to the Premier League in 2003.

He was also responsible for the transformation of Wolves' famous old ground into a modernised 28,000 all-seater stadium.

Key figure

Mike Taylor

BBC WM Sport

Sir Jack Hayward is the key figure in Wolves' modern history. His investment in his hometown club lifted Wolves from their lowest ebb, rebuilding a dilapidated stadium and presiding, after many frustrations, over the club's first return to the top flight in the Premier League era.

He spent much of his life far from Wolverhampton but was always in close touch with events at Molineux, where he had first cheered on Wolves as a boy in the 1930s.

You can hear the FA Cup replay

Wolves v Fulham live on BBC WM 95.6 FM, DAB and on Freeview channel 722, with kick-off at 19.45.
