Some of the 'worst hospital waiting times' in the UK

The NHS in the West Midlands has some of the worst waiting times of anywhere in the country.

Three trusts in the area are failing to meet the four-hour waiting target for A&E for a whole year, as well as the 62-day wait for certain cancer treatments.

University staff complete charity run for Tunisian terror victim

Among those taking part in the Great Birmingham Run this weekend were staff from the University of Worcester who completed the challenge in honor of student Joel Richards killed in the Tunisian terror attack.

Joel, from Wednesbury, died alongside uncle Adrian Evans, grandfather Patrick Evans and 35 others in near Sousse in 2015.

Four staff completed the course, raiding funds for Smile for Joel, the charity set up by Joel's family to support support the loved ones of terror victims.

Charlie Bassett, Mark Kilburn, Steve Harborne and Neil Laurenson all took to the streets to raise funds.

Employee fell out of delivery hatch

An employee fell 2.5m (8ft) out of a delivery hatch while working at a fishmongers in Birmingham, a court has heard.

The man suffered back and head injuries when he fell against a hatch door which then opened.

J Vickerstaff and Co Ltd were ordered to pay £13,255 at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday after pleading guilty to health and safety offences.

The court heard the accident happened in June last year at the wholesale markets in Pershore Street.

Birmingham City Council, which brought the prosecution said the company had co-operated with the investigation, replacing the doors with suitable locks and safe system of work for their use.

Stephanie Slater: Kidnapper found with Crimewatch audience's help

After 33 years of appeals and reconstructions, BBC's Crimewatch is shutting down its phone lines.

Amongst the high profile cases the programme tackled was that of the kidnapping of Birmingham estate agent Stephanie Slater.

The 25-year-old was held captive for eight days in 1992 after showing someone around a house in Great Barr.

Crimewatch broadcast a recording of the kidnapper's voice, which was heard by his ex-wife. She came forward.

As a result, Michael Sams was arrested and convicted for both the kidnapping and the murder of Leeds teenager Julie Dart.

Witnesses to dog-beating urged to come forward

A dog beaten on a bus in Walsall has led to an RSPCA appeal for witnesses.

The attack on the brindle-coloured Staffordshire bull terrior-type happened last Thursday afternoon on the 10A service from Walsall to Brownhills.

The man who carried out the attack, during which the dog was hit a number of times, got on the bus outside the Walsall Wood factory shop, the animal charity said.

A worried member of the public, who witnessed the beating, reported it to the organisation.

Police appeal to witnesses over mother's stabbing

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a mother-of-five at her home are attempting to trace several witnesses who went to the scene.

Parvez Akthar, 46, has been charged with killing Shaeen Akthar, 49, at their home in Wright Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

Det Insp Paul Joyce, of West Midlands Police, said: "A lot of people arrived at the address after the incident and we are eager to speak to any of those people who we have not already spoken to."

Her family described her as an "amazing, caring, beloved mother.

Bear Grylls attraction coming to Birmingham

A new adventure-based attraction launched with survival expert Bear Grylls is opening in Birmingham next year.

Merlin Entertainments has announced the launch, but as yet has not revealed the details.

The firm, which also looks after Warwick Castle, has announced a range of new features including the opportunity for visitors to stay in themed accommodation and try new attractions based on popular kids TV brand Peppa Pig.

Road remains closed after wind damages building

High Street in Quarry Bank, Dudley, remains closed to traffic and pedestrians after the partial collapse of a flat above a tanning shop, says the fire service.

Husband charged with murdering wife

A man has been charged with murder after his wife was stabbed at the family home on Sunday.

Parvez Akthar, 46, is accused of killing 49-year-old Shaheen Akthar at their home on Wright Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

Emergency services attended the scene, shortly before 16:00, but Mrs Akthar died at the scene.

Mr Akthar is due to appear before city magistrates today.

Driver killed in three-car collision

One person has died and two others injured in a crash.

The accident took place shortly before 20:00 on Heybarnes Road in Small Heath, Birmingham.

The driver of one car, said to be badly damaged, died at the scene whilst fire crews worked for around 40 minutes to free the passenger, a man in his 20s.

The driver of a second car, a woman in her 40s, sustained minor injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance service said it got several calls to the scene.

Blown-off roof closes Dudley road

A damaged roof has closed a road in Dudley, causing traffic delays.

The A4100 High Street in Quarry Bank is shut in both directions. Police last night said a roof had blown off a building.

The road is closed between Park Road and Oak Street.
