Painting the Trump-Boris kiss was 'surreal'

Painting the 15ft-high mural of Donald Trump embracing Boris Johnson provoked "much laughter and strong opinions" from passers-by.

That's according to Felix Braun - one of the artists responsible for the image in Bristol.

He said people were beeping their horns and stopping their cars to take pictures.

And that's it from Local Live for today. We'll be back again at 7am tomorrow.

'We have similar at home' says German hitch-hiker

Meet Andreas from Germany, who is hitch-hiking through Bristol on his way home.

He recognised the Boris-Trump 'kiss' in Stokes Croft, Bristol.

Smashed it! How a brick could help a toastie...

How might a clean brick be used to make a toastie? Baker Tom Herbert offers us his recipe.

Ok, time for something a bit random to take your mind off Bristol Rovers, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump!

Who fancies cooking lunch with a brick? Oh yes, you heard right. A brick.

The video comes courtesy of Tom Herbert, from Hobbs House Bakery in Chipping Sodbury.

He offered some reassurance by saying the brick had been put through the dishwasher, although he recognised it wasn't a normal bit of kitchen kit...

You're not kidding.

Darrell Clarke: Could three be the magic number?

Will you stay for a new and improved three-year contract, Darrell?

That's a question his current employers have posed, hoping it will keep him from being lured away by Leeds.

Bristol Rovers say he has been offered the deal to remain at the Memorial Stadium.

The club says it will "not make any further comment until, and unless, there have been any further developments".

Darrell Clarke: Bristol Rovers statement

Bristol Rovers has confirmed they've heard from Leeds United about Darrell Clarke.

However, the Championship side has "failed to meet the conditions set out by Rovers to enable talks to take place," a statement said.

"Until that happens there is nothing else to report," the club added.

Trump and Boris 'kiss' similar to Berlin Wall artwork

The Boris and Donald "kiss" that has appeared in Bristol is reminiscent of this iconic Berlin Wall artwork of a kiss between ex-Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East Germany's Eric Honecker....

The work's called My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love, sometimes referred to as the Fraternal Kiss, and was painted in 1990 by Dmitri Vrubel.

It reproduced a photograph that captured the kiss in 1979 during the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic.

Turning to cricket for a moment and Gloucestershire are currently ahead by 64 runs in their Division Two match against Northamptonshire.

Highlights yesterday included Northants being bowled out for 176, Chris Dent scoring 93 and Craig Miles picking up figures of 5-65.

Play is under way at the County Ground and you can follow what's happening with a live scorecard or live commentary.

Darrell Clarke: Turning the Gas on or off?

We're hearing that Championship side Leeds United have made a formal approach to speak to Bristol Rovers about manager Darrell Clarke.

Clarke has been with the Gas since 2013 and in that time has overseen a relegation (May 2014) and two back-to-back promotions.

Leeds United do not have a vacant position for manager with current boss Steve Evans receiving no word on his future at Elland Road.

A giant mural depicting Boris Johnson and Donald Trump locked in a tender embrace has appeared in guess where? ...yes, Bristol, home of legendary street artist Banksy.

The UK and US politicians are in agreement over Britain leaving the EU, and an unknown artist has obviously taken it upon him or herself to depict this union as above.

It has appeared on the side of the Carriageworks in Stokes Croft.

Cute alert! Dormice found nesting in estate woodlands

Great news from Tyntesfield - dormice have been found living in the estate's woods for the first time.

Numbers of these super cute but greatly endangered creatures have fallen by half in the UK over the past 100 years so the team is absolutely delighted with the find.

Volunteers at the National Trust estate, just outside of Bristol, have put nesting boxes in the woodlands for the dormice to use.

This one was found in a state called Torpor or sleeping which is similar to a temporary hibernation in order to conserve energy.

'Biggest' Banksy exhibition begins

An exhibition described as the largest ever exhibition of Banksy works of art is due to open in Rome later.

It features about 150 works from private collections around the world.

The show, called War, Capitalism and Liberty, will run until September in the Italian capital.
