Help after volcano eruptions

An overseas property developer based in Derby has

donated thousands of euros to help an island recover following recent volcanic eruptions.

Police appeal after stabbing

Police have not yet been able to speak to a man who was

stabbed in the chest in Lower Dale Road in Derby and are
appealing for information.

He has undergone surgery and is now in a critical but stable condition.

Cafe's Christmas tips stolen

A cafe owner has urged members of the public to help trace thieves who

stole a jar full of staff Christmas tips.

Services 'not used'

Jack Taylor, lead campaigner for Save Staffordshire Youth Services group, said the closures were "sad news for Staffordshire".

But the council said

many young people did not use the services.

Cash stolen from shop

Cash has been stolen from a Sinfin shop. The money was taken from the till while a customer was being served at about 8am on Tuesday at the One Stop shop on Sinfin Lane.

The thief is white and was dressed in dark clothing and a hat, with a scarf across his face.

Assembly Rooms fire

One of the biggest stories in Derby in the past year was

the blaze that has left its main entertainment venue closed since March.

The large fire in the plant room next door to the Assembly Rooms caused several streets in the city centre to be closed.

Taxi legal row

A legal battle to ensure taxi customers in Derby know where their vehicle is coming from has cost the city council thousands of pounds.

The authority's trying to make sure that if people ring a Derby private hire company, and it sends a vehicle registered outside the city, customers are told that in advance.

In October, a judge at Derby Magistrates' Court ruled the intention of the council was correct but the way it had tried to implement the change was not. The council says the case cost it almost £9,000.

Tributes paid to 'hero'
