A woman was seriously injured and two other people hurt when an Asda delivery van hit a bus stop in Derby this morning.

The van driver, who is not thought to have been injured, is being interviewed by police.

Tailgater's triple headbutt

A man

was dragged out of his car and headbutted three times by another motorist who had been driving close behind him.

The assault happened on Nottingham Road, in Codnor, at about 17:10 on Monday. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Anger at government's school intervention

A leading county councillor has criticised the government's decision to appoint a replacement governing body for a Derbyshire school in special measures.

Kevin Gillott, cabinet member for children and young people, said the support being given to Alfreton Grange Arts College by the council was starting to reap rewards before Education Secretary Nicky Morgan appointed an interim executive board.

No action over patient records loss

No further action is to be taken over the loss of a computer disk containing details of 42,000 East Midlands Ambulance Service patients.

The disk went missing from the service's Nottingham headquarters in August, but the Information Commissioner's Office said it was satisfied "remedial action" had been taken.

The jury in the Sean Frayne rape trial was told by his defence that he and his wife visited the accuser's home in October 2013 to ask what she knew about a letter they had received asking for money to avoid publicity.

The meeting was said to be amicable but the Fraynes later received a second letter claiming they had "intimidated her".

Laura Pitman, for Mr Frayne, suggested the woman had panicked she would be arrested over the letters and so contacted police herself in December. The woman denied this and told the court she knew nothing about the letter.

A woman who claims Derbyshire's chief fire officer Sean Frayne raped her at a pub in Etwall has denied in court that she and a friend had tried to blackmail him.

Laura Pitman, defending Mr Frayne, told the court he had been sent a letter asking for money to avoid publicity and suggested the encounter was a one night stand she "turned into a rape".

The woman denied the suggestion, saying: "No. It happened in 2006. I wouldn't keep it in my head if it was a one night thing would I?"
