Staying mostly fine into the evening but

there will be a few wintry showers pushing through overnight.


These will be a mixture of rain and sleet, although there could be a few flurries of snow here and there. Lows in rural areas of -1C (30F).

Talbot loan finalised

Councillor dies

North East Derbyshire district councillor Terry Moon

has died.

The former teacher had spent two spells as an independent councillor, from 1977 to 1995 and from 2003 to now.

Gritting plans: Latest advice

Derbyshire County Council has issued its

latest update on the roads for tonight.

In a statement it says, "We will grit the primary routes from 6pm this evening and then again from 4am tomorrow morning.

We are continuing to use farmers to clear other roads which still remain difficult this afternoon.

The following roads are closed:

  • A57 Snake Pass
  • A6024 Holme Moss
  • Torside (Glossop to the Woodhead Pass)

Further snow and ice overnight could make for very difficult driving conditions in places. Only drive if your journey is essential and take care.

Rape case: Fire chief's tears

Derbyshire's chief fire officer was in tears on the stand today as he denied raping a woman in a Derbyshire pub eight years ago.

Asked about the day of the alleged attack in December 2006, Mr Frayne told jurors he had followed the woman out of the bar to another room where she kissed him passionately and instigated consensual sex.

Mr Frayne was tearful throughout his evidence, telling the jury: "It's just wrecked my life."

The trial continues.

The 48-year-old, who denies the charge, told police the woman kissed him passionately and they had consensual sex while his wife was in another room at a pub in Etwall.

signed Derby County utility player Tom Naylor on a loan deal until the end of the season.

A woman died in a two-car crash in Burton this morning.

The crash happened on Alrewas Road in Alrewas at 05:45. A man in the second car suffered minor injuries.
