Peaty: No second chance for drugs cheats

Euan Duncan

BBC Local Live

So the City of Derby swimming star Adam Peaty has been speaking to the BBC ahead of this summer's Olympic Games in Rio, and he's called for a life ban from the sport for anyone found to have taken banned drugs.

Currently swimmers only face permanent bans if they fail a second test, after serving a suspension for an earlier separate offence, but Peaty thinks this isn't enough.

He said: "People who cheat should be given a life ban because it's a message to those people out there that it shouldn't happen at all.

"It's bad for the young ones who really look up to the sport and it's also bad for the people believing in the sport."
