Academies 'wouldn't be interested in' rural schools

Councillor Coyle has said rural schools would be hardest hit by the government's academies plan. 

"This proposal is not in the best interests of pupils or the community" he said.

Council 'strong opposes' government academy plan

Plans to turn all schools into academies have been strongly opposed by Derbyshire County Council.

In a statement on the authority's website, they've pledged to do whatever they can to prevent it from happening. 

Chancellor, George Osborne, announced the plans in last month's budget. The council believes it could have a negative impact on some of the county's schoolchildren.
