Weather: Clear dry night with isolated mist patches

Around 20 firefighters are currently putting out a fire at the former Dairy Crest factory in Langley Mill. 

The derelict building on Cromford Road is well alight and four fire engines have been sent there.

Coroner says no blame on hospital staff for baby's death

The inquest into the death of baby Amelia Brusby from Derbyshire heard she died from natural causes because of a combination of gestational diabetes and an infection, which developed during the period of pregnancy.

The coroner said staff at the Royal Derby Hospital were not at fault for Amelia's death.

Derbyshire PCC: No clear winner after first round

There will be a second round in the Derbyshire PCC election. 

First preference totals were: LAB 66,925 | CON 61,741 | LD 19,492 | UKIP 30,381.

The Liberal Democrats and UKIP candidates are now out of the running so it'll be a straight head-to-head between Labour and the Conservatives, taking second preferences into account.

Baby death due to natural causes, inquest hears

An inquest has heard that a Derbyshire baby who died just three hours after being born at the Royal Derby Hospital died of natural causes.

Baby Amelia Brusby's parents Danielle and James today heard that their daughter died because of a lack of oxygen to her brain shortly after birth by emergency caesarean in December 2014.

Airport users 'ripped off' over drop-off zone parking rise

Davi Murphy posted: "Ripping the people or their families off who are using their airport. I got charged £2 on Tuesday night for three minutes for picking my mum and dad and their hand luggage up. Rip off."

Chanel hoping for Bafta glory

It's the BAFTA awards this weekend and a Derbyshire actress is one of the nominees.

Chanel Cresswell from Smalley is in the running for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Channel 4 drama This is England 90 and says it's recognition for the progamme's alternative approach.

"It's a very different stand alone show. It's not generic and it's not normal. It's shot differently, characterisation is different, it's improvisation, it's not scripted," she said.

Airport parking drop-off zone charge soars

It's not just the weather that's getting hotter at East Midlands Airport... passengers could be excused for getting hot under the collar over a 100% hike in charges for its 'rapid drop-off zone'.

PCC election: Turnout up in Derbyshire

The turnout for the Derbyshire police and crime commissioner election was 23.93% - up from 14.75% in 2012.

It's a higher figure than in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire but that isn't a surprise as there were also other elections in Derbyshire.

Police track down wanted man who fled to fight in Iraq

A man wanted for rape and assault has been arrested by Derbyshire Police - after fleeing the country to apparently fight the so-called Islamic State in Iraq.

Barry Hall, 41, from Chesterfield, was sentenced in his absence in 2015 for two counts of rape and three assaults dating back to 2007.

Woman facing 50 hours in perspex box

I should just point out the 1980s pop song I mentioned was all about a cardboard box, but back to Lisa Males and her challenge to stay in a perspex box for 50 hours.

If Lisa can see it out, she'll leave the box at 14:00 tomorrow afternoon.

"I don't like being on display. It's not something I'm usually comfortable with, but it's something I will go with to raise more awareness," she said.

Only 14% of people voted last time and Professor Kevin Bampton from the University of Derby's Institute of Policing says that figure needs to improve or an alternative way of selecting a suitable candidate could be on the cards.

So the Conservatives gained three seats on Derby City Council, and their leader Matthew Holmes says they're heading in the right direction.

He said: "I think Ranjit Banwait is going to have to change his ways.
