Mother's plea to avoid carrying knives

The mother of a man stabbed to death in Derby city centre says people who plan to carry a knife should decide what person they want to be in life.

Rachel Webb's son Tom died in hospital in January. She was speaking as a knife amnesty starts across Derbyshire today.

Adam Peaty certainly looks like a man on a mission, and even he accepts that things are on track for a strong performance at the Rio Olympics.

After his fourth gold at the European Swimming Championships in London, he said: "It's great to come here and defend all my titles mid-season.

"I can't really complain. The stroke feels in the best place it's ever been and I feel fitter than I've ever been except in that last 25m where I felt awful.

So it was another blistering weekend for City of Derby swimmer Adam Peaty in the pool.

Peaty, from Uttoxeter, won four gold medals at the European Championships in London.

Summit to discuss Derby fly problem

Here are more details of the Environment Agency's plan to eradicate the flies which have been plaguing residents near a waste management site in Derby.

It says: "We are aware that there is a large amount of waste in the shed that will take a considerable length of time to remove. We will be working closely with all parties to monitor progress.

"Shows Waste Management has agreed to provide weekly updates of waste outputs once it starts.

The Environment Agency has sent the BBC a helpful statement, including a section called 'What are we going to do next?'

It says: "We are working collaboratively with the site owners and Derby City Council to agree an action plan to remove waste from the site and reduce the quantities stored.

Foreign criminals 'deserve to be sent home'

Derbyshire Police said its attempts to keep Marcin Jaworksi's identity secret because of tensions in the community linked to Eastern Europeans was a mistake.

Troy Kissane who founded the group Shirebrook Together says tensions have eased recently, but people who've committed crimes overseas shouldn't be allowed to stay.

He said: "What we don't want is people that have got criminal records in Poland coming over here. If someone gets caught here and they've got a criminal record in my opinion they should be sent straight back."

She said: "When the story broke he lost his job so he lost his income. And of course he was frightened.

Polish sex offender 'forced out' of Shirebrook

The solicitor acting for a Polish sex offender says he's been hounded out of Shirebrook.

Renata Jurenko says press reports that Marcin Jaworski was a rapist were wrong, although he was convicted of a sexual offence in Poland and received a suspended sentence.

Don Wicker, who lives on Cobden Street, said: "It's got to its peak this last week. It's been like this for about two weeks. but not to this proportion.
