Smell reminder of fire-damaged farmhouse

Vanessa Coates has been talking about returning to the farmhouse which was badly damaged in a fire nine weeks ago.

She said: "I'm afraid you can still smell the smoke quite badly. Rather fruitlessly I've been trying to open windows, open doors, trying to get rid of the smell, but the smell doesn't seem to want to go as yet.

"So it's a case of constant reminder, but we've manged to salvage some things, so it's now a semi-empty shell ready for the next stage hopefully."

Friends rally round after family forced out of home by fire

Nine weeks after a fire ripped through their Ashover home, the Coates family have moved back into a caravan at their farm site.

Steve Prophet, from the Environment Agency, says they have the power to close a site, but said the priority is to see who's been responsible for the problem.

The community spirit certainly comes out when problems occur, such as the flies which have been plaguing residents in the Slack Lane area of Derby.
