The number of days lost to bed blocking has increased by 20% in East Midlands hospitals over the past four years.

The figures were revealed at the GMB congress in Bournemouth. In Derby the figure has increased by more than 2,000.

Burton man convicted of attempted murder involving car

A man's been found guilty of trying to kill 50-year-old Mohammed Aziz, from Burton, who remains in hospital in a coma after being hit by a car in July.

Nadeem Akhtar, 37, from Burton, was convicted of attempted murder but found not guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mohammed Zufeer, 27, also from Burton, was found guilty of assisting an offender. Both men will be sentenced at a future date.

A spokeswoman for auctioneers Bamfords said it's the highest amount for a single item at the film memorabilia auction so far.

Driving instructors advised not to use road in Alvaston

Here's the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency response to complaints from some residents at Alvaston.

"We can confirm that we have received complaints from residents on Colwell Drive. We try to avoid using this street and have encouraged local instructors to do the same.

"There are no rules in place to stop instructors from using the street. But we will issue an email alert and ask them to refrain from using Colwell Drive."

Fears buyer won't be found for Courtaulds

The administrators of Courtaulds in Belper say they aren't confident a buyer will be found for the hosiery firm where 320 jobs were lost last month.

Despite four businesses expressing an interest in the company, administrators RSM Restructuring Advisory say the scale of its losses mean any sale is unlikely.

Your views: Lack of sympathy for residents plagued by learner drivers

Our Facebook post about residents upset by the number of learner drivers using their road to practice has provoked a reaction.  

Gill Haddick said: "Everyone has to learn to drive somewhere. The estate where I live has been used as 'learner land' for years. Seriously there are more important things in life to get upset about."

And Aisha Khaliq posted: "We were all learners once upon a time. Don't be so ridiculous. People can drive wherever they want. Do you own the road? No."

Two more charged over murder inquiry

Two more men have been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Aqib Mazhar, who was killed in Russell Road in Nottingham on 1 June.

Three people were arrested yesterday. Qamran Ahmed, 21, and Mohammed Quasim, 24, both of Staindale Drive, in Aspley, have been charged, while a 24-year-old man has been released on bail.

Derby MP calls on Ashley to review scope of Sports Direct business
