Derbyshire's police and crime commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has been speaking about how new PM Theresa May's record at the Home Office might be good for policing.

"She should not forget the six years she did as the Home Secretary where she was strong and robust," Mr Dhindsa told BBC Radio Derby. 

"She made sure home affairs and policing were top of the list despite the fact that funding wise we weren't at the top of the list."

Sadler: Three wins and 'a little bit of fortune' needed

Tom Webb trial: Accused begins defence

A 16-year-old accused of killing Tom Webb in Derby city centre says he didn't intentionally stab him.

Mr Webb, from Alvaston, died after being stabbed in January. 

The boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, says he was acting in self defence after Tom Webb swung a bottle at him. 

He denies murder.

Global interest in Joseph Wright paintings

Having the three Joseph Wright paintings on show together is already causing quite a stir apparently. 

Lucy Bamford, senior curator of art for Derby Museums, said: "We've had emails from people in America saying 'I saw this on display and I'd love to come over and see it in England'.

"People are thinking of making special trips to come and see the three Wrights."

Council moves to keep petitions local

The way petitions are dealt with by Derby City Council could change, because too many people from outside the city are signing them. 

4,000 signatures are needed to trigger a debate at the council, but the rules are to be tightened to require the 4,000 to actually be from Derby. 

The council says a recent petition about swimming facilities in the city had 25,000 signatures, but almost 11,000 of them lived abroad.
