Labour's ruling National Executive Committee has met this afternoon to decide if Jeremy Corbyn's name should be automatically put on the leadership ballot after a contest was triggered by Angela Eagle.

There are 33 Labour members on this committee, including Derby's Margaret Beckett and Bolsover's Dennis Skinner.

If Mr Corbyn isn't allowed on that ballot paper he will have to seek nominations from 51 MPs and MEPs but he might struggle to do that bearing in mind the vote of no confidence in his leadership from the Parliamentary Labour Party. 

Whatever happens it looks like there will be a leadership contest over the summer.

How much did McFadzean cost Brewers?

MK Dons defender Kyle McFadzean has joined Burton Albion on a three-year deal.

The club record fee has not been revealed but Dons boss Karl Robinson had previously said their asking price for the 29-year-old was £500,000.

Drugs operation brings 19 arrests

Police have arrested 19 people on drugs offences in Derby city and Normanton areas in the past 24 hours.

The crackdown involved searches at 14 properties in Derby and Normanton, and another in the West Midlands.

Derby councillors investigated over taxi licensing

Three Derby councillors are to be investigated over possible interference in the taxi licensing process.

The most recent incident saw a councillor write to the crown court giving references for two taxi drivers who were later found guilty of supplying cannabis.

It happened the day after a report was published by the council's auditors, criticising the way councillors had interfered in taxi licensing.

Aristocrat banned after caught speeding in Derbyshire

Derby firm 'proud' to get new airline contract

There's more good news of another Rolls-Royce contract today.

Now they've been awarded a $900m contract with Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain's national carrier, to make Trent 1000 engines for their Dreamliners.

Some of the airline's fleet is already powered by Trent 700 engines made by Rolls-Royce so the new contract will add to that.

Burton Albion have signed Kyle McFadzean from MK Dons for a club record fee.

Show looks at high speed trains made in Derby

Rail enthusiast features on trainspotting show

Ripley's Ian Castledine collects all things locomotive, in particular builders plates and nameplates from trains and his living room wall is covered in them. 

He's even got an original Wingfield Station totem sign from the former station near Belper.

Police talk to CPS about charges after man's death

Police said a 21-year-old man from Chesterfield had already been charged with causing grievous bodily harm but in light of Mr Henchcliffe’s death this morning, they would be consulting with the CPS about these charges.

Two 24-year-old men, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, have been released on bail while the inquiry continues.

Council ponders legal action against Chesterfield breakaway

Chesterfield is considering joining the Sheffield City Region as part of devolution plans. 

But the leader of Derbyshire County Council, Anne Western, has issued a plea to "keep Derbyshire together" and is considering taking legal action to try to stop the move.

Man dies in hospital week after attack

A man who was assaulted in Chesterfield earlier this month has died in hospital from his injuries.

Christopher Henchcliffe, aged 26, was taken to hospital on 3 July after he was assaulted by three men in Corporation Street, outside the Pomegranate Theatre early that morning.

Big changes planned for Derby hospital

Among the changes at Royal Derby Hospital are plans to expand the A&E department in future.

The number of people using the department has increased about a third since 2010 so it's hoped the extra parking will be useful.

As well as the one-way system around the site, the hospital also hopes to introduce a driving lane and a queuing lane to keep traffic flowing.

It was a vehicle fire closing the lane earlier but now there are two broken down vehicles causing delays.

Men wanted over pensioner's card theft

Police have released these images of men they want to speak to about the theft of a pensioner's bank card in Chesterfield and money being withdrawn from her account.

The 80-year-old had been shopping at the Co-op in Elder Way when the theft happened.

Hospital 'keeping fingers crossed' for approval

The hospital trust's associate director of patient experience and facilities management, Paul Brooks, has been speaking to BBC Radio Derby's Chris Doidge about the parking plans.

He said they were keeping their fingers crossed for the staff car park plans to be approved before they thought about the multi-storey car park.

The first phase of the work will see staff permanently parking on the Manor car park to help free up spaces elsewhere.

Mr Brooks said plans for the new multi-storey were at least two years away.

Sarah Shardlow wrote: "Please do not build a multistorey car park. There is enough waste land around the bottom of uttoxeter rd to build a huge car park and provide a shuttle bus service up to the Royal. I Have suggested this to them but clearly to no avail. It would remove traffic from the already busy area of the Royal to an area of town that is relatively quiet on the roads."

While Margaret Shipley simply said: "Good it will stop a lot of frustration."

New staff car park waiting for premission

The hospital says phase one of its plan to build a new staff car park is already in motion, with an application submitted to Derby City Council for permission.

If that gets the go-ahead, work could start in the next 10 months.
