Analysis: Union agrees Sports Direct pay deal

Jonty Bloom

BBC Business correspondent

Sport Direct's warehouse at Shirebrook has become notorious for its working conditions.

At a Commons select committee hearing in June, Mike Ashley admitted many workers had earned less than the national minimum wage because of time spent at the end of their shifts being searched by security guards.

Now the Unite union says its members have backed a compensation deal which could be worth £1,000 for each worker.

But there was a warning that some agency staff may not get all the back pay they're owed.

Dame Margaret has also warned the leadership contest between Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith could split the party.

"That is the great fear for people who actually are Labour Party people and who want to see an alternative government to the present government with a very different approach and values.

"Some of the people around Jeremy, (it has) unfortunately become clear in recent weeks, are perfectly happy for that to happen."
