Goose 'shot' with arrow in park

Khia Lewis-Todd

BBC Local Live

The RSPCA is concerned that someone is shooting geese with arrows in a Derbyshire park after a bird had to be put down.

A member of the public contacted the charity on Saturday after they spotted a goose with an arrow in its body, at Poolsbrook Park, in Staveley.

The goose suffered a bad wing injury and had to be put to sleep by a vet, the RSPCA said.

The animal charity said it had been notified of a second incident but the goose was unharmed. They are urging anyone with information to contact them.

BBC Local Live

Derbyshire police are looking for people who may have seen a woman running away from a robber near Tesco in Heanor.

A man threatened the woman with a jagged metal can at about 23:00 on 4 February.

The 28-year-old woman ran off into the Tesco car park and banged on a car window asking for help, before being helped by staff inside the store.

Police now want to speak to the driver of the car as they may have information which could help officers.

Chester Green road closure affecting shop owner

Heidi Booth

Journalist, BBC Radio Derby

Earlier on I caught up with shop owners near Mansfield Road to see if their businesses had been affected since the burst water main.

Ray Garlick who owns a trade shop said his business has suffered since the road closures in the area.

"It's awful. I can't tell my staff to go home and say I can't pay you this week because we've got no business.

"It's going to cause a massive effect and we'll probably make quite a considerable loss this month."

BBC Local Live

Heage Windmill is set to reopen for the year on 1 April.

Members of the windmill are calling for volunteers to help secure its long-term future.

Brian Naylor wants people to go along and learn to be a tour guide or even a miller.

Mr Naylor says without a new influx of volunteers, the hard work of restoring the windmill could be lost in the next 20 years.
