Muslim father loses circumcision court battle over sons

A Muslim father has failed to persuade a judge to rule his sons should be circumcised.

The man argued that circumcision would be in accordance with his religious beliefs. But the boys' mother, who is separated from their father, disagreed.

At a Family Court hearing in Exeter, Mrs Justice Roberts said the boys, who are six and four, should first reach an age where they can make the decision for themselves.  

Grandson who stole £33,000 from grandparents is jailed for 'nasty' fraud

Reggie N Bollie have apologised to fans amid anger at their 15-minute show at Cornwall beach bar The Watering Hole.

"Sincere apologies to our fans who wanted us to play longer yesterday,we were booked to perform 6 songs. You were such an energetic crowd," the X Factor runner-ups said on Twitter.

The Watering Hole in Perranporth also apologised and has offered free tickets to a future event.

MP says father's roof protest "not sensible way of proceeding"

An MP says a man staging a protest on the roof of her home in Cornwall over the "injustice" of fathers' rights is putting himself at risk and could be hurting his own case.

Pete McMurdie, who is part of the campaign group Stop The War on Dads, is on the roof of South East Cornwall MP Sherryll Muray's Liskeard house, while fellow group members Bobby Smith and Martin Matthews protest on the balcony of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

In a statement, Sheryll Murray said she was sympathetic to the plight of fathers who wish to have access to their children, but added: "What my constituent has done is dangerous and puts himself at risk... it is clearly not a sensible way of proceeding."

Train driver 'surprised' before crash at Plymouth station

An investigation into a train crash at Plymouth said a driver saw the rear of the stationary train and was "surprised" to see it so close to the west end of the platform.

The investigation report said: "He looked at the tracks to confirm which route the train was taking and, realising a collision was imminent, applied the emergency brake."

Some fans are blaming Cornwall beach bar The Watering Hole for the short set by Reggie N Bollie on Saturday night.

The six-song show at the bar was an "absolute joke" and an "absolute rip-off" said other fans of the rappers.

"We are absolutely devastated and extremely disappointed," said the bar which charged £22 a ticket. Reggie N Bollie apologised to fans who "wanted us to play longer", but said they were booked to perform six songs.

Tumble dryer sets home ablaze in Mawnan Smith

- Reports of an accident in Newquay, Cornwall, on Ulalia Road, near Eliot Gardens

 - There are reports of an incident in Exmouth on Salterton Road near the Liverton Business Park.

- In Cornwall at Threemilestone, Chyvelah Road is closed at Polstain Road for roadworks.

- The A3072 in Devon between Copplestone and Bow is closed both in directions for roadworks.

Mobility scooter man, 90, in Torquay assault

A man has appeared in court in connection with an assault on an elderly man on a mobility scooter at the weekend.

The disabled 90-year-old, who is from Torquay, was allegedly attacked on Saturday outside a shop in the town's Union Street.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 42-year-old local man had been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

Boss Nicholson admits Torquay 'didn't realise' they were safe

Torquay United player-manager Kevin Nicholson has admitted his side did not know they had secured National League safety until they had left the field after their win at Bromley.

They are now seven points clear of the relegation zone, having been 12 points adrift of safety in February.

Dr Rose Polge: family friend says her death is "devastating"

Susan van de Ven, a friend of the Polge family, says the death of the junior doctor, Rose Polge, is "absolutely devastating".

The Liberal Democrat county councillor for Melbourn, where the Polge family lives, said: "It's an enormous loss for so many people, and not least the loss of Rosie herself - for the life she had ahead of her. 

"My thoughts are of course with her family and her friends."

Plymouth train crash: Signaller 'misjudged' space on platform

A signaller misjudged the space available on the platform for two trains that collided in Plymouth, an initial investigation has found.

A train travelling from Penzance to Exeter collided with another train on platform six just after 15.30 BST on 3 April.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch initial findings found the signaller believed there was enough space for both trains on the platform.

About 35 people were injured.

The National Association of Probation Officers claims up to 40% of staff could be lost, which could put public safety at risk.

Dorset body confirmed as missing junior doctor Rose Polge

A body found washed up in Dorset is that of a missing junior doctor, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed.

The body of Rose Polge, 25, who worked at Torbay Hospital in Devon, was recovered from the sea east of Portland Bill headland in Dorset on 1 April.

 The doctor's car was found in February at Ansteys Cove near Torquay, the town where she worked.

Former England international Graham Dawe has been asked to "step down immediately" as Plymouth Albion's director of rugby at the request of the club's new owners.

The National One club were taken over by former players David Venables and Bruce Priday last week after entering administration.
