Chris Carroll to be sentenced at 10:00 tomorrow

To recap, the 20-year-old has been found guilty of murdering Darren Kelly in Pitsea last October.

Darren Kelly was a 'kind and hard-working' father

After the guilty verdict, Darren Kelly's family said in a statement the 42-year-old father was "a kind, hard-working, caring, fun-loving, all-round good guy".

"He was not only a wonderful son, but a brother, a friend and especially the best father a girl could ever have. His daughter didn't just lose a father, she also lost a friend," it continued.

"R.I.P Darren. We will love, miss and remember you forever xxx."

Police 'strongly deter anyone from vigilante behaviour'

Det Ch Insp Stephen Jennings, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said Darren Kelly "lost his life due to the completely unfounded belief that he intended to meet an underage girl".

It's after Chelmsford Crown Court heard during the six-week trial that the lorry driver was lured to his death after claims he was a paedophile.

"Essex Police strongly deter anyone from vigilante behaviour at any level. They could be acting upon inaccurate information and putting innocent people at serious risk," he said.

  • 12 April 2016: Chris Carroll, 20, along with two 17-year-old boys and the girl face trial at Chelmsford Crown Court
  • 17 May 2016: A jury finds Chris Carroll guilty. The three teenagers are discharged

Carroll will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow following a unanimous guilty verdict this afternoon. 

The 20-year-old was wearing a white t-shirt and muttered under his breath as the verdict was read out.

Three teenagers also accused of murder were found not guilty.

Four medals for Southend Invictus Games veteran

Two silvers and two bronze medals... Andy Bracey from Southend-on-Sea has come back from competing in the Invictus Games in Florida with a plethora of bling.

The 41-year-old competed in a number of wheelchair racing events last week. He served in Northern Ireland and Iraq, but became a wheelchair user when he was involved in a hit-and-run incident while off duty.

"To just be there was absolutely amazing," he said. You can hear the full interview on The Dave Monk Show from 16:00 this evening.

Travel: One lane closed in both directions on the A120

One lane remains closed on the A120 in both directions between the A133 and the A12 Colchester by-pass.

The lorry is said to have damaged about 200m (656ft) of the central reservation. Regular updates here.

Mercury Theatre secures £1m funding

The Mercury Theatre will be celebrating today as it has just secured £1m of funding from Essex County Council. 

The money will go towards the Colchester-based theatre's expansion and improvement plan that launched last year. 

Similar pledges of support for its £8.8m plan have already been received from Colchester Borough Council and Arts Council England, subject to certain conditions.

Lorry strikes bridge, closing A120

Essex Fire and Rescue says a seven-and-a-half tonne lorry has struck a bridge on the carriageway. 

Crew members are currently trying to release a trapped male.

The outgoing chief executive of Colchester Hospital, Frank Sims, who started the role in October, says he is "confident" patients in Colchester and Suffolk will benefit from a partnership.
