Bus route abandoned because it's not financially viable

Diamond Buses say they may have to cut the number one bus in Kidderminster, because not enough people are using it.

The circular route, which runs from Kidderminster bus station, Stourport Road and Rifle Range before returning to the bus station every half an hour during the day is said to be no longer financially viable.

Diamond Buses say passenger numbers have plummeted in recent months.

Your comments: M5 and M42 delays as roadworks cause 'mayhem'

Facebook

You've been giving us your thoughts on the M5 delays as repairs are carried out by Highways England.

Local MPs are urging the government agency to consider making changes after thousands of drivers are getting caught in delays on the roads.

Tony Pearce writes on the BBC Midlands Facebook page: "They cannot have thought about this, they urge motorists to go the M42/M6 route, without a thought of travel time, extra emisions, inconvenience."

Kevin Ward says: "I tried M6 Toll the other day instead. It was as clear as a bell up at the ferry in wales to get home in no time. Would not be cheap for commuters though 👌"

Roger Johnstone adds: "Highways England are a bit of a joke. Accountable to nobody. Always coning off far more miles than they are capable of actually working on."

NHS letters: £100k 'will be shared out' after computer glitch

The Worcestershire NHS trust says it is assessing 11,000 letters after a computer glitch failed to send follow-up letters to some 22,000 GPs, after hospital appointments.

A spokeswoman for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust says the error, which dates back to 2011, has affected less than 1% of its patients and a senior medical officer is now reviewing files.

There is a recognition by the trust that there is an increase in workload to deal with the letters. Our priority is to work in partnership with primary care partners to review the letters. The estimated budget has been allocated by the trust and will be shared with primary care partners."

M5 and M42 monitoring takes place before any changes are made

Highways England says it will continue to assess traffic on the M5 and M42 before making any decisions on changing its areas of roadworks.

MPs in Birmingham and Worcester, including Robin Walker have "joined forces" to put pressure on the government department to consider changes to ease congestion along the motorway.

We’re monitoring traffic on a daily basis as motorists get used to the new layouts and over the coming weeks we’ll be carrying out a further study into traffic flows around Oldbury and the wider area. When we get the results we can then look at anything further we can do to ease the impact on local residents and motorists."

Mr Twarowski added: "In the meantime, we’re continuing to work with partners like local councils as we try to balance the flow of traffic across the region to minimise wider disruption. We’d ask for people’s continued patience while this essential work takes place."

More additional road signs are being considered "to inform drivers of real time traffic conditions so they can make a more informed choice" about their route.

NHS letters delay: Hospital trust to spend £100k on letters backlog

BBC Hereford and Worcester

The trust in charge of Worcestershire’s three main hospitals says it expect to spend about a £100,000 dealing with a backlog of 22,000 letters to GPs.

The trust is under fire after they admitted a computer error meant thousands of letters about follow-up appointments weren’t sent to GPs, dating back to 2011.

It says the backlog clearing should be completed by September.

We are awaiting more details from the hospital on what the £100,000 will be spent on.

Calls for M5 rethink: 'Economy must be suffering'

We've been asking you for your thoughts on the M5 and M42 after thousands of motorists are getting caught up in delays due to lane closures.

BBC

Laura Schirrmacher posts on Facebook: First sensible remarks from our local MP. The economy of the 2 counties must be suffering as a result of the endless chaos caused by The Highways Agency. There has to be a serious rethink and action to resolve this. There have been major roadworks on the M5/M42 for nearly 4 years. This must be enough to put off people investing in the area."

Michael Leighton adds: "Two much traffic on the road that's the problem!"

Free pop-up shop up for grabs for budding entrepreneurs

Elizabeth Glinka

A shop worth £25,000 is being given away for free in the Worcestershire town of Droitwich.

The unit is being offered as the prize in a competition for local entrepreneurs as part of a joint venture between the council and the local shopping centre.

St Andrew's Square in Droitwich
BBC

Entrants have to be from the area, under 30 and convince the judges their business plan is a winner. If they succeed they'll pay no rent - or business rates for a year.

I think this is something really worthwhile. In his day and age retail has a lot of issues. By putting out this competition and trying to create ideas, we'll have something that can break down the issues of online and people not coming in to the town centre. Hopefully this will become a destination."

Calls for M5 'rethink' after long delays

A group of MPs are calling on Highways England to rethink lane restrictions in the roadworks on the M5 between Worcester and the M42 junction.

Lane closures along the motorway approaching the Oldbury viaduct are causing long delays for commuters.

M5
BBC

It follows years of disruption for smart motorways to be implemented.

Local MPs are joining forces to push back on this and challenge Highways England. We want to see if they can make things a bit easier for that crucial traffic that flows up the M5 into Birmingham and supports the economy of Birmingham and Worcester. We think it is in everyone's interest to take a different approach."
