Thieves kill ducklings and steal money from Hornsea farm

Thieves who broke into a farm in Hornsea killed birds and stole money from vending machines.

It happened between 19:00 on Saturday and 07:00 BST on Sunday at Honeysuckle Farm on Bewholme Lane.

The offenders approached vending machines that sold fish food by the side of the pond and forced the cash boxes open.

The broken containers along with stones were thrown into the water killing ducklings and moorhens.

The MP for Beverley and Holderness Graham Stuart is meeting with NHS bosses this afternoon to discuss proposals to close Minor Injury Units (MIU) in East Yorkshire.

He's been supporting the campaign to keep centres open in Hornsea and Withernsea.

The East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group also wants to close one in Driffield.

It says no decisions have been made yet and a consultation it planned for the summer.

Police appealing for witnesses after man dies in car crash in Hull

A 34-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a tree off Hessle Road in Hull this morning.

It happened at around 05.45am close to the junction with Pickering Road.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the car leaving the road. 

They would especially like to speak to three men who tried to assist the victim, but left before talking to officers.

Two of the men were in a Ford Transit and the other man was in a Land Rover.

The three men or any other witnesses should call 101 quoting log 56.

The Gypsey Race is a stream that runs through the villages of West Lutton, Helperthorpe, Butterwick, Burton Fleming and out to the North Sea at Bridlington.

Two new 25m (80ft) cranes are being moved into place at the Port of Hull.

They are part of a £15m investment in the site by Port Operators - Associated British Ports.

Once customers start to realise that Hull does have an exceptionally efficient container terminal, it may make container companies start to consider using Hull as their point of call."

The Ferens Art Gallery won't confirm exactly how many have registered to take part but at the end of March more than 2,000 people had signed up.

Humberside Police have confirmed that a 34 year old man has died in this morning's car crash on Hessle Road.

He'd been driving a blue Renault Megane towards the city centre when the car left the road, collided with a tree and caught fire.

He was pronounced dead a short time after.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the car leaving the road - especially three men who tried to help him.

Gastro specialists are holding an event today at the KCOM stadium to raise awareness about Crohn's and Colitis disease.

It's thought it affects between eight and 10 people in every 1,000 - which means around 5,000 people in Hull and East Riding could be affected.

The event is aimed at patients and the public but the later sessions will focus on the work of health professionals.

Police targeting people traffickers and illegal immigrants at Humber Bridge

Humberside Police are taking part in a national operation targeting foreign criminals called Operation Trivium.

Officers will carry out checks on vehicles at the Humber Bridge and Immingham over the next week.

During the 2015 operation, there were nine arrests ranging from drinking and driving to money laundering. 

Some 14 vehicles were also seized.

Hull City Council wants to ask people what they think about having Hull Fair open on a Sunday before it makes any kind of decision on the event.

The council has been approached by The Yorkshire Section of the Showmen's Guild asking to operate on a Sunday. 

If you want to have your say then head to Walton Street fairground (opposite the Lowther Street junction) on Thursday 19 May 2016 from 11:00 until 19:00 BST.

It's thought that he's in the Bransholme or Longhill Estate area of Hull.
