Sport: Hull KR captain ruled out for the rest of the season

BBC Humberside Sport

Hull Kingston Rovers captain Terry Campese is set to be sidelined for the rest of the 2016 season after suffering a serious hamstring injury in the recent match against Wigan Warriors.

The Robins skipper ruptured his hamstring tendon midway through the second half of the game and was sent to see a specialist last week.

Scans have revealed the full extent of the damage.

This is really disappointing news for the club and for Terry, who has suffered greatly with injuries this season and done his very best to return as quickly as possible each time.

East Riding's buses: The proposed changes

Louise Wheeler

BBC Local Live

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the reduction in funding may only affect bus services at one particular time during the full day's timetable.

The council has given the following example of what the changes would mean:

  • Service 45(York-Pocklington-Driffield-Bridlington Monday to Friday service) – The council currently pays for the 14.30 departure from Pocklington to Bridlington, which under the proposal would end.
  • But passengers could travel instead on the same 12.30 or 16.30 journeys from Pocklington to Bridlington operated commercially by EYMS.
  • Service 80 (Hull-Hedon-Hull Monday to Friday service) – The council pays for this bus to visit the Westfield Estate, in Hedon, at 9.24 and 11.43 each morning.
  • This would stop under the proposal. However, the nearest bus stop is a short walk away on New Road, the main road through Hedon.

BreakingFunding reduction for bus services in East Yorkshire

Louise Wheeler

BBC Local Live

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will consider reducing funding for bus services by £600,000.

The local authority says they have to save £60 million pounds over the next 4 years.

It would mean some passengers travelling at a different time or using a different bus service.

The council says the majority of bus services will be unaffected by the proposal as the funding cuts will affect 5% of services.

We are working closely with community transport groups and bus operators to make sure as best we can alternatives will be available for journeys that may be lost.

Hospital visiting hours to change to allow patients more time with family and friends

Louise Wheeler

BBC Local Live

Visiting hours are going to change at Scunthorpe General Hospital, Goole and District Hospital and Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

Hospital bosses say it will give friends and family of patients greater flexibility.

Currently they are restricted to 2.30pm to 4pm and 6.30pm to 8pm.

However, from Monday June 27 people will be able to visit between 11am and 8pm.

We know patients benefit greatly from having their loved ones visit during their hospital recovery, and we also know that visitors appreciate this added flexibility as it makes visiting much easier to fit in with their work and other commitments.”

Sport: Hull KR coach unhappy with set up of competition

BBC Humberside Sport

Hull Kingston Rovers coach James Webster has fired a broadside against the mid-season Super League split into the Super 8's and Middle 8's competitions.

The new fixture format is in its second season and Webster says he doesn't think it works.

Does this competition really allow the competition to spread and grow to become stronger? You've got 4 or 5 teams that won't be able to recruit, you have a top 4 that's already worked out and everyone knows where they are for the rest of the year. I am not a fan of the way it is set up. I understand its outstanding for the Championship clubs because they get a good salary cut and funding for the game.

It took us 20 minutes to get into our stride which you cannot afford to do. I can only credit them with coming up with the sucker punches.

A group of local businesses want to build the multi-million pound development at Hedon, next to a site that plugs into the national grid.

A public consultation starts next month.

The businesses say it would bring investment to the area.

The region should be taking the advantage of the infrastructure that has been installed at great expense to the public purse to benefit the community as a whole.
