Woman rescued after getting trapped in sofa

A woman had to be rescued after getting her hand trapped in a sofa mechanism today.

Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to the incident Lythe Avenue in Cottingham this lunchtime. The released her using small hand tools. 

The woman did not receive any injuries as a result.

Sickness bug affects a quarter of pupils at a Hull school

Environmental Health officers are looking into why 88 out of 350 pupils at a school in Hull have fallen ill. 

An investigation at Kingswood Parks Primary has started.

Council officials say Public Health England understand it to be a virus.

While a full investigation into the circumstances will be undertaken, all indications are that this is a virus and it should be treated as such."

Traffic and travel: Accident on A63 Hull

Traffic is slow on the A63 Westbound in Hull between Prince's Dock Street junction and Mytongate roundabout because of an accident involving a lorry and a car.

It's causing congestion back to Garrison road roundabout. 

It is also affecting A1165 Great Union Street.

Siemens: Still committed to Hull following Brexit vote

Siemens have made reassurances about its investment in Hull.

Yesterday the German company warned that its plans to export wind turbine blades from the UK will be put on hold because of the Brexit result.

It also comes as another 100 jobs at its wind turbine blade factory on the Humber have been advertised.

Hull Arena will be closed from Sunday 3 July for almost two weeks to allow urgent work on the ice pad.

This is due to technical problems. 

It's hoped it will re-open on Friday 15 July.

It now means there are now three Gentoo chicks at the aquarium, after the first hatched earlier this month.

Speaking at the launch of a new series of portraits in London, he said the death of 23-year-old Dominic Elliott who died after drinking drain cleaner had caused him to struggle with his art.

Support for Corbyn: Looking after the 'little man'

Labour activists in Hull are supporting Jeremny Corbyn, although three quarters of his MPS have tabled a vote of no confidence.

Women head to London over pensions

Women from our region will protest in London later about changes to their state pensions.

They are supporting a campaign by WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality), who say women born in the 1950s have had their state pension entitlement age changed twice.

Bridge to be strengthened to take heavy vehicles

It's been confirmed that more than £600,000 will be spent strengthening it so that HGVs can use it. 

It's hoped it will cut congestion.

Work is due to start in August, a road closure will be in place for six weeks.

Allegations of police vehicles damaged and officer assaulted

A man will appear before Beverley Magistrates today over allegations of damage to police vehicles and an assault on an officer on 27 and 28 June at Clough Road in Hull.

Gareth Handley, 31, of no fixed address, is charged with assault and two counts of criminal damage.
