Police caution for Dominic Peacock over Jo Cox abuse

A former Tory councillor has been cautioned by police for posting an offensive message mocking the fundraising effort in memory of killed MP Jo Cox.

Dominic Peacock, 60, was interviewed by police before being cautioned under section five of the Public Order Act.

Soon after making the remark, Mr Peacock deleted it and apologised.

Mr Peacock (pictured) who represented the Minster and Woodmansey ward in Beverley, East Yorkshire, has since been expelled by the Conservative Party.

As part of the investigation a 60-year-old man was voluntarily interviewed on Friday 1 July and cautioned for Section 5 Public Order."

The Avenues in Hull hosts its annual open gardens weekend

It's the 40th anniversary of open gardens this weekend at the Avenues in Hull.

Every year since 1976 residents of the conservation area open their gardens to the public to raise money for charity. 

I have been to visit some of those involved in the event.

Main shopping area to re-open for buses

People in Hull will soon be able to get a bus into the main shopping area of the city centre.

Carr Lane will reopen from Monday following four months of improvement works. It's been part of Hull City Council's multi-million pound public realm programme. 

Westbound Buses only will be able to use the road , stopping at Monument Bridge and Telephone House. 

Eastbound services will be back when the third phases of the work is complete.

Look North went to Brough station where we spoke to commuters waiting for bus replacement services.

Signalling problems, caused by vandalism, meant morning services between Hull and Brough were cancelled, delaying many travellers.

Dog Walker prevents bike theft in Hull

Police are appealing for witnesses after a group of up to 15 people, aged between 11 and 16 attempted to steal a bike from a 14-year-old boy on Thursday at 19:15 near the skate park in East Park, Hull.

They were stopped after a man walking his dog intervened and helped the victim who then rode off.

Bridlington prepares for second seafood festival

Bridlington's Seafood Festival returns to the town's harbour this weekend. 

It's only the second time the event has been held and last year it attracted around 15,000 visitors.

It's being extended to two days this year and is designed to showcase locally-caught seafood.

Elite men's cycling race comes to Beverley

The streets of Beverley will witness another elite cycling race this evening. 

The East Yorkshire market town hosted the start of the Tour de Yorkshire earlier in the year.

The event, starting at 18:15 has a first prize of £1,000 and a total prize fund of £5,000 and is round four of eight counting towards a national series held over six weeks.

The artist Spencer Tunick is known around the world for taking such pictures.  

Burglary at Bridlington children's nursery

A burglar has targeted a children’s day nursery on Queensgate in Bridlington.

The thief smashed a glass door panel in the early hours of 7 July and stole an Asus laptop and a small amount of cash.

Police have issued a picture of a man they want to interview.

Thousands of people are preparing to strip off for a mass nude photograph in Hull as part of the city's culture celebrations. 

The artist Spencer Tunick is known around the world for taking such pictures. 

His latest work will be called Sea of Hull and be unveiled at the Ferens Art Gallery in 2017.

Signalling problems between Hull and Brough are causing problems for trains across East Yorkshire this morning. All trains from Hull have been cancelled.

These services have been altered:

  • 08:23undefinedHull trains Hull to London Kings Cross will be started from Doncaster.
  • 09:02 Northern Rail's Hull to York service has been cancelled. 
  • 07:41 Northern Rail's Sheffield to Bridlington due at 10:02 will start from Doncaster and stop at Brough.  

Man, 82, suffers head injury in Beverley Road accident

An 82-year-old man suffered a head injury when he was hit by a bin lorry in Hull earlier this morning.

Beverley Road re-opened following the accident earlier this morning. 

Humberside Police say the man's injury is not thought to be life threatening.
