Council secures funding for sustainable travel

North East Lincolnshire Council has got more than £440,000 to improve sustainable travel in the borough. 

The funding will be used for a variety of schemes, including the promotion cycling, an official said.

This money will allow us to build on the good transport networks that we already have here and will make the area much more travel-friendly."

Public meeting to be held on Hull hostel

A councillor in the avenues area of Hull has called two public meetings about concerns over a hostel for homeless and vulnerable people 

Westbourne House has been established nearly a year. When it first opened residents associations, the neighbourhood watch and businesses in the area all raised objections over its location.

Councillor John Robinson has organised two meetings - one is this evening.

Next of Kin sought after death of man in Scunthorpe

Humberside Police want to locate any family members of the late Nicholas John Muteham of Scunthorpe.

Mr Muteham, aged 65, died at his home address in Pinchbeck Avenue on 7 July.

Leanne Gerrard had only been in her new home two weeks when it appeared from behind her bathtub and made its way down the stairs. 

She's not seen it since but was afraid it was venomous.

Great Yorkshire Show: Animal disqualified in udder tampering probe

A dairy cattle exhibitor has been disqualified from the Great Yorkshire Show after an animal was tampered with, organisers have said.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society confirmed a "substance" was used on the cow's udders, contravening show rules.

Chief Executive Nigel Pulling said the competitor's animal had been banned with immediate effect.

We take any allegation of tampering very seriously as the welfare of animals is paramount.

The Lincolnshire Lakes development is thought to be the biggest residential led regeneration scheme in the north.

Grimsby Town have tweeted that their pre-season match against Rotherham United next Wednesday has been cancelled.

A spokesperson said, "Rotherham United have requested to call off the encounter with the Mariners due to a number of injuries sustained by members of the first team squad, during the club’s pre-season tour of Poland."

Plans to create new habitats in East Yorkshire

A drop-in meeting is being held in the Holderness area today to provide information about plans for a habitat creation scheme.

The Environment Agency and Associated British Ports (ABP) will be answering questions about the Welwick and Skeffling project today at Skeffling village hall.

They want to replace wildlife habitats lost due to flood risk management schemes around the Humber.

The club has reached an agreement with the new owners of the town's British Steel plant.

The company's logo also features on the Iron's kit for next season.

Police appeal for help in finding missing woman

Humberside Police say they're concerned for the welfare of a woman who has gone missing in North Lincolnshire.

Eva keys of Barton-on-Humber is currently receiving care and was last seen in Scunthorpe yesterday evening.

Mrs Keys is described as 5ft 6in tall, medium build, with collar length, straight, dark brown hair, a tanned complexion and green eyes.

Plan to deal with street begging in North East Lincolnshire

A scheme to deal with begging in North East Lincolnshire is starting today. 

The council says there's been a rise in street begging in Cleethorpes and Grimsby and say there have been reports of people being intimidated and harassed. 

They're working with the police and local  charities for the homeless to offer support.

Bridlington to get £1m lottery cash

Nearly £1m of Heritage lottery funding has been secured for Bridlington town centre.

It brings the total investment in the town to almost £3m.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the cash will be used to restore the Quay's historic buildings and protect them for future generations.

The MP for Haltemprice and Howden has been given the new role of Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union by the Prime Minister Theresa May.
