Four arrested in English Channel migrant smuggling probe

Two British men, aged 65 and 49, a British citizen of Kuwaiti origin, 42, and an Egyptian, 33, were arrested.

'Significant disruption' for rail commuters from London

Southeastern say Cannon Street station is closed due to flooding and is not due to re-open before 16:30 BST.

A spokesman said: "We are expecting evening peak services from London to be significantly disrupted so please allow extra time to complete your journey." 

Southern services are suffering major disruption too.

Man bailed after MP received threats on Facebook

A 28-year-old man arrested after South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay received a threatening Facebook post has been bailed until 26 June.

UPDATE: Para-athlete's anger at stolen wheelchair

Here's a picture of John Smith's wheelchair that was stolen from outside his home in West Kingsdown.

The athlete, who is hoping to compete in the Rio Paralympics in September, says his "dreams would be over" without it.

Three rescued from house fire

Three people have been rescued from a fire at a house in Broadstairs this morning.

It broke out in a bedroom of the two-storey property in Trinity Square around 08.45 BST but was under control in just over half an hour.

Two women and a man were given oxygen by firefighters.

Flooding update: Southeastern disruption

Southeastern says following overnight heavy rain and thunderstorms, flooding is causing severe disruption on a number of their routes. It advises passengers to check before travelling.

A spokesman said: "A number of our trains and crews have been displaced, meaning they are not where they need to be on our network in order to meet our timetable."

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning on the River Shuttle in the Dartford area after last night's torrential rain.

The area highlighted in purple is at risk of flooding.

John Smith from West Kingsdown says his dream of competing in the Paralympics in Rio have been shattered by the theft of his wheelchair.

The racing chair was taken from his van while it was parked outside his house.

He says with the Games so close, there's no time to order a replacement.

Flooding calls in Kent

Kent Fire and Rescue Service received several calls overnight about flooding in areas including Eastchurch, Herne Bay, Margate and Cliftonville. 

Crews used a pump at a property in Crown Road in Sittingbourne. 

They also attended Staplehurst Road in Sittingbourne where a 2ft round hole appeared.   

Stabbing in Sittingbourne

A man in his 30s has been stabbed in Sittingbourne. 

The incident happened in Woodberry Drive in the town just before 19:30 BST yesterday.  

The man suffered a wound to his lower back and was airlifted to hospital.   

There have been no arrests.

Big rise in dog thefts

More than 5,000 dogs have been reported stolen to police forces in England and Wales since the start of 2013, a BBC South East investigation has found.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show there has been a 20% rise in two years.

Update: rail disruption to Tonbridge

Southern Rail say Redhill station was closed from 07:45 BST to 08:25 BST due to overcrowding.

The company says the line has now re-opened but there are still some delays.
