Fugitive gunman arrested after BBC help

Colin Campbell

BBC South East Special Correspondent

He's been on the run for over a decade, but now we've located John Soares, a fugitive who repeatedly shot his partner Martine Almansa with a powerful air gun in their Ashford home in 2003.

In 2011 Soares was captured by police but was released from prison before his trial and again fled. He was sentenced in his absence to 12 years in jail. Now, after an exclusive investigation - we located the dangerous wanted criminal.

But why did Kent Police struggle to capture him? I put this question to Det Supt Andy Pritchard.
