Eight-thousand students from all over Kent and Sussex have been taking part in the "Big Bang Festival" at the South of England Showground in the West Sussex village of Ardingly.

Kent family of Somme survivor tell his story

It's the 100th anniversary of one of the most famous battles of all time - The Somme. One of the first into action was 18-year-old Lieutenant Frank Thornely, who survived.

Rolling Stones' Keith Richards on growing up in Dartford

The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards is to explore his formative years in Dartford in a BBC documentary.

"Keith Richards - The Origin Of The Species" will look at the guitarist's pre-Stones life as part of BBC Two's My Generation season.

The 72-year-old will also "hand-pick" two nights of films and live performances on BBC Four.

Keith Richards' Lost Weekend will run in September and feature an interview with the Rolling Stone each night, in which he will explain his selections. Read more details here.

Midfielder signs new two-year contract

Gillingham Midfielder Josh Wright has signed a new contract at Priestfield that'll see him at the club until the summer of 2018. 

The 26-year-old made 44 appearances across all competitions for the Gills last season and also captained the side on a handful of occasions.

Matthew Green return: 'Too much red tape'

The parents of a man who disappeared six years ago and was eventually found in Spain have said there needs to be a change in the way authorities deal with missing people.

Four teens charged over alleyway assault

Four 17-year-old boys have been charged with attacking two men in an alleyway in Sheerness.

Kent Police were called to the High Street at 12:44 BST on Saturday 28 May, where one victim, who was in his 20s, had suffered severe facial injuries while the other, who was in his 50s, was not seriously hurt.

All four teens were charged with assault and grievous bodily harm.

Two of the four have been remanded in custody and two released on bail before their appearance at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 5 July.

Battle of the Somme anniversary

Friday will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme - the bloodiest engagement of World War One which left more than 19,000 British soldiers dead on the first day. Because of that calamity the diversionary attack before has been all but forgotten - but not in the South East.
