Train delays due to large sink hole

There's misery for commuters travelling home tonight after a large sink hole opened up on tracks near Forest Hill. It's meant two lines into London Bridge have had to be closed.

As a result Southern services into and out of London Bridge station are severely disrupted.  For details of your journey check Southern or Southeastern

'An ambulance service struggling to cope'

Mark Norman

BBC South East Health Correspondent

Here's my analysis of the news that SECAmb has been issued with a warning notice by the health regulator.

"This is piling the pressure on the ambulance service.

"A full inspection in May highlighted a range of issues. This notice makes it clear some of those issues need sorting immediately.

A full inspection in May highlighted a range of issues

"Problems answering the NHS 111 service are perhaps the most worrying for inspectors.

"SECAMB is already being investigated after it dodged national response targets to gain more time to assess some seriously ill patients.

SECAmb dodged national response targets to gain more time to assess some seriously ill patients.

"In a pilot project during the winter of 2014/15 the trust delayed sending help for certain 111 calls and transferred them to the 999 system, thus gaining an additional 10 minutes to respond.

"Here we are a year and half on and the NHS 111 system is still a major cause of concern for the CQC.

"Add to that issues with kit, medicines, staffing, a temporary Chief Executive, a temporary Chairman and a huge demand on their services from us, the public, and this is an ambulance service struggling to cope."

Ambulance trust warning notice: Boss says 'sorry'

Acting Chief Executive of SECAmb, Geraint Davies, said: "The Trust is sorry for not providing the service that the communities we serve should expect and deserve.

“Along with the rest of the Trust’s executive team, our priority now is to focus on addressing the issues which the CQC has highlighted.

“We know that there is a lot that the Trust needs to do to improve compliance with a number of systems and processes to ensure the safety of our patients."

Cricket: Kent batsmen dominate to put hosts in control over Sussex

Claire Cottingham

Sean Dickson, Joe Denly and Sam Northeast hit half-centuries as Kent's batsmen dominated against Sussex on day one at Tunbridge Wells.

Chris Jordan had Adam Ball caught for a duck as the hosts were reduced to 2-1.

But Dickson and Denly shared a 162-run second-wicket partnership before the former was caught at backward point off Stu Whittingham.

Whittingham dismissed Denly after tea but Northeast's unbeaten 75 saw the home side close on 310-3.

Heatwave warning for Kent

Claire Cottingham

It's going to be a warm one this week, as a heatwave warning has been announced for Kent.

The level-two alert, which is currently in place, is triggered when the Met Office forecasts a 60 per cent chance of temperatures being high enough on at least two consecutive days and the intervening night to have a significant effect on health.

As the temperatures rise, remember to help vulnerable residents stay safe and well too. And of course don't forget to stay hydrated.

BreakingAmbulance trust issued with warning notice

Mark Norman

BBC South East Health Correspondent

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been issued with a warning notice by health regulators The Care Quality Commission (CQC).

After an inspection held at the beginning of May, the CQC has called on the Trust to make significant improvements to a number of systems and processes which it says are not operating effectively as well as adequately managing NHS 111 calls in a timely manner.

The Trust now has until September to address the immediate concerns highlighted by the CQC before a full report will be published later in the year.
