International artists in the Kent countryside

A shelter constructed from natural materials found in Kent, a miniature swimming pool and a coppiced chestnut arch that spirals over a footpath.

These are just some of the sculptures created this week at the Riverhill Himalayan Gardens in Sevenoaks, as part of an international sculpture symposium.

Marine experts are warning some of the South East's prime shellfishing grounds are in danger because of the spread of a highly invasive creature on the seabed.

The carpet sea squirt is an animal that's sometimes given the unflattering nickname "marine vomit".

M2 UPDATE: Road closed until 19:00 BST

Highways England say they don't expect the London-bound carriageway of the M2, between junctions 5 and 6, to re-open until 19:00 BST.

The closure follows a lorry fire on the motorway earlier.

The road is currently closed to traffic with reports of seven-mile tailbacks. There are diversions via the A20 and M20. More on the story here

Canterbury Cathedral to receive £250,000 for a library corridor roof

Canterbury Cathedral is one of many to be awarded grants from the WW1 Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund. 

The government has said cathedrals across the UK will receive £14.5m to mark the centenary of World War One to repair these "powerful symbols" of British history. The fund is designed to help preserve cathedrals for future generations.

Border controls to stay in France not move to Dover

British border controls will stay in France despite the vote to leave the EU. 

The French President Francois Hollande has confirmed his country will keep the Le Touquet agreement in place. 

There were warnings during the EU referendum campaign the border may be moved back to Dover.

Kent Olympian faces six-time Olympic champion

Dartford sprinter Adam Gemili will face the six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt tonight as he continues his preparation for the Rio Olympics at the London Anniversary Games. 

The Kent runner will compete in the 200m against the Jamaican world record holder.

An impressive body of work

Louise Giblin is a sculptor whose unique bodycasts of Olympic athletes, rock stars, and war veterans have been shown around the world.

Now what's being billed as the largest public gathering of her work is on display in her home town of Tunbridge Wells at the Seeart Gallery.

Drivers 'hold up fire engine' trying to get to M2 fire

Six drivers will be prosecuted after allegedly driving on the hard shoulder and holding up a fire engine.

The emergency services were responding to a fire where a lorry carrying bales of hay burst into flames on the M2. 

The motorway is currently closed for traffic travelling west from Faversham to Sittingbourne. Firefighters are tackling the blaze while Kent Police and Highways England are also at the scene.

Drivers on the M25 are being warned to take extra care, with some hard shoulders removed to allow for all-lane running.

Former Czech Spitfire pilot flies over Kent again

Seventy years ago a young Czech airman was flying Spitfires with the RAF. For the first time since then, Emil Bocek, now 93, has flown a Spitfire in the skies above Kent once again. 

He escaped from his German-occupied homeland as a 16-year-old in 1939 and volunteered to fight the Nazis alongside the British.

Two submarines which sank off the coast of England more than a century ago have been given protected status.

A German U-boat scuppered off the coast of Kent in 1915 and a British A-class submarine which sank in 1912 off Dorset have been made protected historic wreck sites. Full story here.
