Southern negotiations "a farce"

The RMT union has just issued a statement blaming "external forces" for the collapse of talks with Southern operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).

The union says the rejection of its offer to suspend Monday's strike means the responsibility for the disruption lies with the Government and GTR.

It was clear right from the start of these talks that there was no serious intent from Govia Thameslink to engage in genuine negotiations"

Mick CashGeneral Secretary, RMT

"Needless stress and inconvenience"

Just a few minutes before it was announced talks had fallen through the Home Secretary, Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd, tweeted this:

'Grim news'

Claire Cottingham

Local Live reporter

In the last half an hour we've heard the five-day strike on the Southern network will go ahead, with customers reduced to another emergency timetable.

You've been having your say on twitter.

Argh!! Grim confirmation via @JonHuntTV. #SouthernStrike…

@MPChrisGrayling @theresa_may @PaulMaynardMP #southernrail Accept RMT ScotRail offer and avoid strikes! Polit agendas on SR are not helpful!

Anyone else feel that #southernrail mgmt declined to accept @RMTunion offer because they were too lazy to rework strike timetables

"Not prepared to negotiate"

A compromise plan to settle the #Southernstrike dispute was rejected by the RMT Union, according to Govia Thameslink Railway. The rail firm says it went "the extra mile" with its offer, but that the RMT is not prepared to negotiate.

RMT’s plan to cease the dispute should GTR agree to the terms agreed in Scotland recently is a complete red herring. This amounts to a continuation of the current operating model and delivers none of the punctuality and customer service benefits we are determined to deliver to our passengers”.

Long tailbacks on the #M25

Claire Cottingham

There are delays on the M25 in Kent and Essex caused by a horse on the loose.

Police say there are severe delays of between 60-90 minutes due to the incident at J30.

Essex Police are trying to catch the horse which escaped onto the road earlier this morning. The entry slip road from J30 onto the clockwise M25 towards the Dartford Crossing has been closed along with the connector road from J30 to J31.
