Ten years for man who squirted 'good citizen' with corrosive liquid

A man who squirted corrosive liquid in the face of a man, who was attempting to break up a fight among a group of youths, has been jailed for 10 years.

The 44-year-old man, who isn't being named, was driving outside The Barge pub in Vange, Basildon, when he attempted to disperse the youths in March last year.

Thomas Eastwood then pulled up in a van and, while the victim explained what had been happening, squirted a concentrated alkaline substance in his face.

Members of the public heard his screams and came to his aid and he was taken to hospital.

Essex Police described his injuries as something "he'll have to live with for the rest of his life".

Eastwood, 22, of Langlands Drive, Dartford, Kent, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Basildon Crown Court during a trial in January and today he was sentenced.
