Inquests into the deaths of seven men at Camber Sands will take place in Hastings in the last week of June, it has been announced.

The bereaved families of five of the men who died at the Sussex beach last summer have demanded the inquest examine whether a local authority was to blame for the deaths.

Lawyers representing the families said the hearing - which is scheduled to start the week beginning 26 June - should look at whether Rother District Council "could or should" have done more given the history of Camber Sands.

The government says it wants your opinions on what the next rail operator for Kent should be doing.

The county's next franchise is due to begin next year, and a three-month consultation is being launched today.

The Department for Transport says it wants to see longer trains, closer working with Network Rail to reduce delays and a simpler compensation system. Network Rail is forecasting a 47% increase in passenger numbers between Kent and the capital by 2044.

It's proposing a number of improvements, including new links between High Speed 1 and the Marshlink route and between Faversham and Ashford. You can read all the details here .

Tributes to Kent actor Tony Haygarth

Tony Haygarth
The Haygarth family

The family of Tony Haygarth have paid tribute to him after he died aged 72.

The actor, who lived in East Peckham, was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2014 and moved into residential care a year later.

He died peacefully on Friday with his wife, Carol, and two daughters, Becky and Katie, at his side.

The Liverpudlian actor's career spanned five decades. He appeared in TV series such as Emmerdale, The Bill and New Tricks, as well as films such as Chicken Run.

Becky said the amount of support the family had been shown since her dad's death, particularly on social media, had been overwhelming.

She described him as an "amazing person and a community-spirited man".

He struggled so much towards the end. He'd been in hospital three times since January, his body was exhausted. But when he passed away it was so peaceful. We were all there, there was no fight, no pain. We want people to know that."

Becky HaygarthDaughter

This time of year was dad's favourite, he loved new life, baby lambs, new bulbs shooting through, so we're feeling very much like he's around at the moment."
