Donor found for Kent man

A man from Whitstable who has a rare bone marrow disorder has finally found a donor after an international appeal. 

BBC South East spoke to Yevi Ilangakoon last month, about his desperate search for a suitable donor. Yevi is originally from Sri Lanka. But only a small percentage of registered bone marrow donors in the UK are Asian.

Does Chatham's Historic Dockyard exhibition deserve an architecture award?

Fourteen buildings, including Command of the Oceans at Chatham's Historic Dockyard, have been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects South East awards 2017.

Other buildings nominated across the South East include Kingsdown House in The King's School in Canterbury, Hastings Pier and Brighton College.

The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 25 May.

Taxi driver assaulted

Two men have been charged after reports a taxi driver was assaulted near Ebbsfleet Railway Station on 18 March. 

They have since been charged with four offences each.

The men charged are:

  • Clive James Vivian, 32 from Dartford
  • Jamie Vivian, 27 from Sidcup

They have both been charged with

  • Making off without paying the taxi fare
  • Possessing an offensive weapon (a bottle of ammonia) in a public place
  • Criminal damage to a sun visor
  • Racially aggravated assault.

There weren't any bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover today to celebrate Dame Vera Lynn`s 100th birthday.

The plan was for a pair of Spitfires to do a fly-past, in addition to which 50ft high birds would have been serenaded by military re-enactors as the Forces' Sweetheart is honoured for her war time service. 

But high winds, rain and fog have put paid to that - for now at least. Despite that, celebrations continue in Dover.

The 34-year-old sent us this photo of herself aged four meeting Dame Vera Lynn at the village fair.

Ramsgate named as heritage action zone

The town will receive nearly half a million pounds from Historic England.

Hundreds of children suspended for drugs or alcohol offences

BBC Radio Kent has discovered that 380 children in the county have been suspended from school in a single year for drug or alcohol offences.

Fourteen were given a permanent exclusion.

Now an addiction charity is working with 75 schools in the county to help combat the problem.

A day of celebration is being held to mark the 100th birthday of Dame Vera Lynn. 

The singer, songwriter and actress, who lives in Ditchling, became hugely popular during World War Two and was widely referred to as "The Forces' Sweetheart".

A 350ft image of Dame Vera is being projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover.

The singer said she was thrilled by the tributes and would be thinking of all those servicemen who'd glanced back at the cliffs as they headed off to war.
