Dad left "empty" after theft

Hamish Mureddu-Reid

BBC News Online, South East

A dad whose baby had died says he's left with an "emptiness feeling" after his son's blanket and toys were stolen.

A blanket the family used to wrap up their son was taken, along with other items, when their car was stolen in Dartford on Wednesday.

A toy dinosaur, buggy, a mirror and two car seats were later left outside Dartford police station and returned to the family.

He said: "I don't understand why they would choose to return everything else and keep the blanket. There is no reason for the blanket not to be returned."

The baby's father said the theft was "soul destroying".

Home Secretary to tackle 'sex-for-rent'

Lauren Moss

BBC Live reporter

The Home Secretary and Hastings MP Amber Rudd has told BBC South East that tackling sexual exploitation is a key government priority.

It follows our investigation into adverts offering free accommodation to people - in exchange for sex.

Charities have condemned "sex-for-rent" as exploitative and preying on the vulnerable.

It comes as another South East MP, Peter Kyle, has revealed he plans to raise the issue in the Commons this week.

Nobody should feel obligated to have sex with anybody else other than by choice – and the law on rape and sexual abuse is clear.

Protecting women and girls and tackling exploitation are issues I care deeply about and both are key priorities for this Government.

Kent cricket abstains in T20 vote

Kent Cricket Club have announced they will abstain from voting in the ECB ballot on proposals for a new T20 tournament.

We believe that our stance reflects the anxiety there is amongst non-Test match grounds – those unlikely to host new teams – that their role as active players in the future of the game is at risk. However, understanding that it is now inevitable that the proposals will receive the support that they need to be enacted, we hope that we might act as a ‘critical friend’ in their further development."
