Many commuters are angry at Mr Grayling for not intervening directly to try to end the Southern Rail dispute, which began in April 2016.

But Reigate's Crispin Blunt is backing him.

Passengers have faced widespread disruption and more than a year of strike action over Driver Only Operated trains.

Events are being held to mark the 350th anniversary of the Battle of Medway.

It was one of England's worst naval defeats, with Dutch troops occupying Sheerness fort and their fleet destroying and capturing several Royal Navy ships in Chatham.

The Dutch have sent a navy warship to take part in the council's two-week commemoration of the event.

Hotel deal for Paramount Resort

A deal has been reached between the planned Paramount Resort in north Kent and InterContinental Hotels Group to bring 4,000 guest rooms to the site.

The resort on the Swanscombe Peninsula, near Dartford, would be twice the size of the Olympic Park and include 5,000 hotel rooms and a water park.

The latest plans for the entertainment resort will go on public display in autumn this year, before a Development Consent Order is submitted to the Secretary of State.

The £2bn resort is scheduled to open in 2022.

Police appeal after man found with serious head injuries

A 26-year-old man from Hythe has been arrested after a man was found with serious head injuries in Folkestone.

The 33-year-old was found dazed and confused between Tontine Street and Mill Bay, shortly before 05:00 BST on Monday 12 June 2017.

He was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Top of the range racers stolen

Four racing bikes worth thousands of pounds each have been stolen from a garage in Tunbridge Wells.

They were taken sometime between 17:00 BST on 5 June and 07:45 BST on 6 June, from a property in Pembury Road.

Man airlifted to hospital after crash

A man in his fifties from the Margate area had to be to airlifted to hospital after a crash on Saturday.

At about 11:40 BST a blue Honda Civic collided with a Harley-Davidson on Ethelbert Cresent.

The man on the bike was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

Dartford fire under investigation

The cause of a fire which killed a man in his seventies yesterday morning is still being investigated. It happened at a sheltered accommodation block near Dartford.

Eight fire engines, nine ambulances and the air ambulance were at the scene in Wilmington.

Eight residents were taken to hospital and 20 were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
