A World War Two veteran who fought on the battlefields of Normandy is being laid to rest in Canterbury today.

Albert Figg was a sergeant in the Royal Artillery.

He campaigned and raised money for a memorial to remember soldiers who died in Caen in 1944.

Warning to boat owners on the Kent coast

Yacht and pleasure boat owners heading for the Kent coast are being warned about the risk of illegal immigrants trying to hide in their vessels.

The Royal Yachting Association says recreational boat owners need to be alert to the possibility of stowaways when returning to the UK from abroad.

It comes after a series of incidents off the Kent coast in the last year where migrants crossed the Channel in small craft.
