Rossendale girlband Fairplay sing anti bullying message

Three teenagers from Rossendale are hoping to make it into the music charts with a charity single which aims to raise awareness about bullying.

The girls, from Alder Grange School, perform as Fairplay and have released their single, Seeing Stars, in aid of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  

The foundation was set up in memory of Sophie Lancaster, who was murdered in Bacup in 2007.

Man stuck on Barnoldwick roof is rescued

A man has been rescued from a roof in Barnoldwick.

Firefighters were called to Skipton Road at about 07:30 following reports a man was stuck.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Weather: Some sunshine with light breeze

Patchy cloud will build for a time, although many will see lengthy sunshine to end the day. Feeling pleasant in a light westerly breeze.

Major investment for Burnley General Hospital

Work on the new East Lancashire Elective Centre will begin this week to create a larger ward with an additional 14 beds for short-stay surgery.

Women rescued in Blackburn probe into human trafficking

Five women were rescued from two addresses in Blackburn as part of an investigation into suspected human trafficking.

Police searched properties on St James’s Road and Wensley Road on Wednesday, and three men were arrested.  

Det Sgt Tony Atkins, of Lancashire Police, said “These were successful interventions enabling us to ensure the safety of five vulnerable individuals, and arrest three people who we suspect have preyed on these susceptible people."
