Lancashire golfer Jack Senior missed the cut at his first Open Championship as he crashed out at Royal Troon on 10 over – 20 shots behind clubhouse halfway leader Phil Mickelson.

Senior, who once played against Jordan Spieth in his Walker Cup amateur days, failed to birdie a hole, running up eight bogeys, in his first-round 79 on Thursday.

But he was a lot brighter on day two, going to the turn in two-under 34 after birdies at the 1st and the 7th. But four back-nine bogeys forced him to sign for a 73.
