A tree has fallen on a power sub-station in Chorley

About 1,800 properties remain without power as flying debris has hit power lines and high winds continue to make access difficult.

House prices: Burnley sees some of the biggest falls in UK

The value of many homes in northern England is less than their owners paid for it in 2007, according to analysis for BBC News.

Indinar Madhar
BBC

Bank Hall in Burnley has seen some of the sharpest falls - prices there have dropped by about 53% once inflation has been factored in.

Property investor Indinar Madhar said she bought 15 houses for rental because they were cheap. She said she has no regrets.

It made sense for me to buy cheap houses and charge rent and get a good return on my investment for my rent so that's why I did it.

People are happy to pay about £40,000 in this area. I have another house I bought in this area for £42,000 and I'd be lucky to get £40,000 so it's not worth my interest to sell.

Gary Fletcher

Gary Fletcher, of Wilton Street, Burnley pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Nicola Haworth, 33, on 22 July 2016 in a hearing at Preston Crown Court.

Lancashire Police said he was arrested for holding a large knife in a street and told officers he had killed his partner.

Police searched their home and found Ms Haworth's body in a cupboard, hidden under a quilt and with her feet and hands bound.

The cause of death was asphyxiation according to a post mortem examination.

While we may never know the full circumstances which led to Nicola Haworth’s death, Gary Fletcher’s actions were cold, callous and cruel.
