£86k court costs for Morecambe FC ownership dispute to proceed

A Brazilian businessman has been ordered to pay £86,000 in costs to proceed with a court case disputing the ownership of Morecambe FC.

Diego Lemos is contesting the ownership of the club's parent company G50 Holdings in a dispute with North East-based tax consultant Graham Burnard.

A hearing at the Civil Justice Centre in Manchester ordered Lemos - who was not present at the court - to pay the sum by 17:00 on 16 May.

Mr Burnard's solicitor Lynne Brooke welcomed the ruling.

Suffolk official Abi Marriott was left speechless after being told she will be an assistant referee at this season’s Women’s FA Cup Final.

The 25-year-old from Mildenhall will be running the line at the match between Birmingham City and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 13 May.

"It is definitely the pinnacle of my career," Marriott said. 

"Every referee dreams of walking out at Wembley for a national final."

Abi was encouraged to take up the whistle six years ago by her fiancé and fellow referee George Byrne.

"When I started I had no idea I would get this far, but as I’ve progressed my achievable targets have changed."

Van driver dies in five-vehicle crash on M55

A van driver from Chorley has died in a crash with another van, two lorries and a car on the M55 near Kirkham.

The crash, which happened at about 08:45, closed the motorway in both directions for several hours, while emergency services worked at the scene.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

The eastbound carriageway has now fully reopened, while all but one lane of the westbound carriageway remains closed.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

But the star told BBC Radio Manchester there will be no series three and no Christmas specials.

Asked whether John would ever switch from Forever FM to Radio Manchester, Kay replied: "There's not going to be a series three so it won't ever happen."

He added: "You've got to get out while the going's good. No Christmas special, no."

Viewers have been waiting throughout series two to find out whether John - played by Kay - finally gets together with his passenger Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson.

People in a town in Cumbria are meeting later to discuss if the town gained any benefits when it became part of the Yorkshire Dales.

Anti-fracking protest blocks busy road

Anti-fracking protesters have halted traffic outside a shale gas exploration site in Lancashire by locking themselves together across a road.

Lancashire Police were called to the site on Preston New Road near Little Plumpton at about 06:15.

A force spokesman said eight people in pairs had been on the road and an operation to remove them was under way.

He said it had caused "a lot of problems" on surrounding roads. One lane of the road has since reopened.

Football: Blackpool suspend Orient ticket sales

Blackpool's request to suspend ticket sales to Leyton Orient fans for Saturday's final game of the season for safety and security reasons has been backed by the English Football League.

The EFL said the request was supported to allow "a full review of the match day safety and security arrangements."

All parties will discuss the issue with the EFL executive, with an update expected on at 18:00.

Lorry and car crash closes M55

The westbound carriageway of the M55 is closed after a crash between a car and a lorry.

Police are investigating and said the motorway is likely to be closed until at least lunchtime.

Simon Danczuk fails to secure Labour nomination

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk who was suspended by Labour for allegedly sending explicit texts to a teenager will not be endorsed to stand as the party's candidate in the general election.

Party officials said a panel "unanimously" recommended the decision.

Mr Danczuk, who has been serving as an independent MP since his suspension in December, had said he "expected" to be the party's candidate on 8 June. 

It follows news his ex-wife Karen was not selected as Labour candidate for Bury North.
