Man in hospital with stab wounds after street fight

A main road in Manchester has been closed following reports of a fight, before a man was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a gun in the group fight on Oldham Road in Newton Heath at 13:30.

But the group had dispersed before officers arrived.

A man with stab wounds later turned up at Central Park Police Station on Northampton Road and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Council agrees £630k loan for Salford's AJ Bell stadium

Salford's AJ Bell Stadium is to receive a further loan of £632,500 from Salford City Council - in addition to the £25m it has already received.

The loan to the company behind the stadium was agreed by the council at a meeting earlier, following earlier talks.

Salford City Council said the financial support is "necessary" and without it the company would default on its existing loan to the council.

A family refused entry to an airport lounge on account of their Minnie Mouse t-shirts has received an apology.

Emma Raikes was travelling to Disney World, Florida on Monday with six family members, including her two-year-old niece, and had booked access to the Aspire Lounge at Manchester Airport.

But staff told the group their personalised Minnie Mouse t-shirts did not fit the lounge dress code.

Operator Swissport apologised and said staff had "misinterpreted" the code.

Rail investment leaves Staffordshire 'forgotten'

A near £1bn of investment in railways in the West Midlands isn't doing enough for Staffordshire, according to business leaders.

West Midlands Rail Ltd will takeover routes currently operated by London Midland from December.

However, when it brings in timetable changes from December 2018, its Crewe to London Euston services will not call at Alsager, Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent and Stone.

The chief executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, Sara Williams, says the region's been "forgotten" by Westminster, calling for a more "consistent rail network" and cheaper fares.

The Department for Transport says the almost £1bn of investment is good for passengers and will bring new trains and better stations.

A man has denied stealing from victims in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombing.

Leeds schoolgirl Sorrell Leczkowski (pictured), 14, was among 22 people who died in the attack at the end of the Ariana Grande concert.

Chris Parker, 33, of no fixed address was charged with stealing a purse and contents from Sorrell's grandmother, Pauline Healey and a mobile phone from a 14-year-old girl.

Mr Parker was remanded in custody by Manchester and Salford Magistrates and will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on 13 September.

Manchester attack 'hero' denies bank card and mobile phone theft

A man who was hailed a hero after the Manchester Arena attack has denied stealing a bank card and mobile phone at the venue on the night of the blast.

Chris Parker, 33, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of theft on Tuesday.

He was remanded into custody following the hearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court.

Mr Parker was reported to have comforted a seriously injured girl and a woman who died in his arms.

He was charged with stealing a purse and contents from Pauline Healey and a mobile phone from a 14-year-old girl. He will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on 13 September.
