Weather: Showers dying out with bright spells tomorrow

A last look at the weather this evening. Isolated heavy showers will die out, becoming dry and clear. 

A minimum temperature of 0C (32F) with a touch of frost with light and variable wind.

Tomorrow, you can expect a dry and bright start with sunny spells. It'll tend to cloud over, but staying dry apart from a little rain into Pennine areas in the evening. 

Maximum temperature 11C (52F) with a freshening southwest wind.

According to the results of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch survey, the house sparrow is West Yorkshire's most commonly seen bird.

The starling, blackbird and bluetit just missed out. Better luck next year, guys!

Police identify River Calder bodies

A man whose body was found in the River Calder at Dewsbury earlier this week has been named by police as Daniel France.

Mr France, who was 28, had been missing from his home in the town for almost three weeks.

The body of a man pulled from the same river on Good Friday, but this time near Mirfield, was 77-year-old George Bass from Harrogate who went missing on the second of March, police have also confirmed. 

Police believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Bass's death. 

Leeds United Doukara gets eight-game ban for biting

Leeds United striker Souleymane Doukara is suspended for eight matches for biting an opponent in his side's draw with Fulham.

The FA say he was charged following an incident which occurred in the 54th minute of the game against Fulham on 23 February 2016 and has been fined £5,000.

Flood impact on Calderdale businesses 'huge', new research shows

We know that lots of small businesses were affected by the Boxing Day floods in West Yorkshire - about 900 of them in Calderdale alone. 

Well, Leeds University is looking into the economic impact of the deluge in the Calder Valley.

Dr Paola Sakaiat's been speaking on BBC Radio Leeds about her research and she says the flooding has hit hard.

Travel update: Accident sparks delays on Stanningley bypass

Be careful on the A647 as the Stanningley By-Pass which is currently closed in Pudsey.

There's queuing traffic westbound between the Swinnow Lane junction and the B6155 junction, because of an accident and an overturned car.

Ronnie Corbett death: Leeds comedy promoter pays tribute

The world of comedy is remembering Ronnie Corbett, who has died aged 85.

He was best known for BBC comedy sketch show The Two Ronnies.

Leeds Rhinos head coach McDermott to lead USA at 2017 RL World Cup

Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott will take charge of the United States at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

McDermott first took on the post with the USA Hawks last July, sealing qualification for the tournament with wins against Jamaica and Canada.

He says: "I'm very pleased to have been invited to continue my role. What's already been achieved is the result of a lot of hard work and commitment, with much more preparation required."

Could this be the future of transport in Leeds?

Ideas are being discussed to improve transport in Leeds and a "supertram" could be one of them.

Councillor Keith Wakefield, chair of the area's transport committee, said Leeds needed "to catch up with the big European cities".

Former rector from Bradford jailed for abusing girl

A disgraced clergyman who repeatedly sexually abused a 15-year-old girl has been given a three-year jail sentence.

Stephen Crabtree, 59, from Bradford, committed the indecent assaults in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire between April 1992 and April 1993.

The Bishop of Lincoln said: "I am very sorry indeed that it has taken so long for proper justice to be served."

Speaking after the hearing, the Right Reverend Christopher Lowson added, the sentence was a "just and appropriate punishment for the appalling abuse to which he subjected a child".

Ferrybridge closure is 'grim news' - MP

We've had reaction to today's final closure of Ferrybridge C power station from the Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford Labour MP, Yvette Cooper.

The station is closing after 50 years, and the owners SSE say it's down to rising costs.    

But Ms Cooper says she blames government policy for the end to electricity production at the coal-fired site.

West Yorkshire police have just confirmed that the body found in the River Calder yesterday is that of missing man Daniel France from Dewsbury.

Photos released of East End Park fire victims

Photographs of the three people who died following a house fire in Leeds on Good Friday have been released by West Yorkshire Police.

The bodies of the two women and a man were found on Saturday following a blaze in a terraced house in East End Park. 

Joanne Marie Semple (pictured left), 36, Stephen Fitzgerald, 18, and Kelly Taylor-Hackett, 28, were all living at the same address. 

Post-mortem examinations found all three died as a result of the fire, police said.

Rhino's return: Forward Stevie Ward on road to recovery

Good news for Rhinos fans: Stevie Ward should be back from from injury after recovering from a knee reconstruction. 

The 22-year-old underwent surgery last October following his injury in the Rhinos' victory over Huddersfield which claimed the League Leader's Shield.

Ferrybridge C workers to clock off for the final time

For half a century, the famous chimneys and cooling towers of the landmark Ferrybridge C coal-fired power station have kept the lights on for millions of people. 

But today, it will close after 50 years, with owners SSE blaming the decision on rising costs. 

I've been looking back at 50 years of Ferrybridge and what the future holds for the community surrounding what's known as "Megawatt Valley".

An arts group in West Yorkshire has recorded traditional lullabies from around the world.

The songs have been gathered by Supriya Nagarajan who is the artistic director of Manasamitra in Dewsbury.

Ms Nagarajan is using the songs in special singing sessions to teach the different communities in the town about each others' cultures.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has commissioned a study looking at what kind of Metro system could work in Leeds. 

Keith Wakefield, chair of the Combined Authority's Transport Committee, has been speaking to Richard Stead on BBC Radio Leeds about the sort of ideas which will be discussed:

Ferrybridge C power station to officially close after 50 years

A landmark coal-fired power station in West Yorkshire will officially close later after 50 years in service.

The closure of Ferrybridge C, near Knottingley, was announced by SSE in May 2015. It last produced electricity on 23 March and decommissioning work is expected to take about 12 months.

SSE said a projected loss of £100m over the next five years meant Ferrybridge was "no longer economical".

Leeds and Bradford rank among worst for 'crash for cash' claims

New research puts Leeds and Bradford in the top 10 for so-called "crash for cash" scams. 

That's where fraudsters deliberately stage road accidents to claim compensation for whiplash injuries. 

The insurance company, Aviva, puts Leeds in fourth position and Bradford in eighth among English towns and cities for crashes, with Birmingham in first place.
