Preston 1-1 Leeds

@WYSdaily This is a squad with some very average players. Steve has done very well and added some fight. Give him the chance,

@WYSdaily Unfortunate that we've now dropped into the bottom half of the table. Great job from Steve but won't help his cause!

More from Evans

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Steve Evans

"The boys on the pitch, they don't deserve that result today," Evans added.

"The players need the support that they had today because this division is tough. I want to be at Leeds United next season because everybody wants to beat them.

"I feel for Scott Wootton and I thought up until then he did really well. I felt for all my players at the end.

"I have to go home now and see what my president decides. I would love to be at Thorp Arch on Monday, planning the pre-season. I would still love for that to happen."

Steve Evans on his future

Preston 1-1 Leeds

"I was in tears at the end and they are just fantastic supporters," Steve Evans said after the game.

"They deserve a successful team and I really hope and pray that they get one.

"I thought, maybe a week ago, that I knew my future but I don't know. I need to let people above me make an informed decision and I will take it with grace and dignity.

"The feeling you get, I hope it's wrong but if the decision is made for the benefit of the football club then I would endorse it.

"I will be the first to applaud them onto the pitch but I really feel, with the backing that will come here in the summer, that I have demonstrated that this club can reach the play-offs."

.@WYSdaily remember Evans only had contract till end of season. Cellino in 1 respect doesn't owe anything. Silence though is unprofessional

@WYSdaily never mind incentives. Keep Evans..tie down the kids with fair deals and then I will be interested in a season ticket

We'll have reaction from Steve Evans shortly

Scott wootton the gift that keeps on giving, especially to opposing teams.@WYSdaily

@WYSdaily think Steve deserves a chance! Let him buy his own players and have a full preseason! He has a lot of fans behind him! #keephim!

Noel on the penalty

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It was a great penalty and it showed a good sense of character.

He was the designated penalty taker because he was starting the game and as much as Mirco Antenucci wanted to take it, he might not be here next season - Wood is.

He is our first choice and he should be taking penalties. He needs that strength of character and he needs these goals.

Signing off with a goal will put him in good stead for the start of next season.

Phenomenal support today

Noel on Wootton

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Leeds have gifted so many goals this season and along with individual errors, teams haven't had to work too hard against us.

It's a disappointing way to end, especially for Wootton who hadn't done much wrong until then.

The first half was flat then the penalty was the opportunity Leeds needed to see the game out and hit them.

Unfortunately, one bad judgement has cost us.

@WYSdaily Evans deserves a crack of the whip, been very good since he came in, Woods turn around from the start of the years is all him

Steve Evans deserves his chance next season he has taken a poor side to a top half finish and done all he was asked to do. @WYSdaily

Elsewhere in the Championship

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw at Brighton means they are promoted alongside champions Burnley, thanks to goal difference.

Huddersfield Town won't finish above Leeds as they are thrashed 1-5 at home to Brentford, while Wolves beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 and Hull hammer Rotherham 5-1.

The end of the seasion is always emotional and it may be that he doesn't know where his future lies.

It's a shame we didn't get the win but it's a great way to finish and build on for next season.

It would have been nice to go out on a win.

@WYSdaily Poor season slightly rescued by Evans. Evans must stay and be allowed to build with the youth Wood will get 20+ next season

@WYSdaily The final 5 minutes summed our season up!!!!

Noel on Steve Evans

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

He is loving this job and who wouldn't want to be Leeds manager?

The club, the support, the fan base - yes there are difficulties but what managerial position doesn't?

They have such a platform to produce something on next season, if it's the play-offs or the Premier League.

Goodbye from Evans?

Preston 1-1 Leeds

There's a really lovely reception for Steve Evans. Cries of "only one Steve Evans" ring around as a clearly emotional Evans says thank you to the fans.

The Leeds head coach is in tears down on the pitch as he applauds the fans.

Noel on today's draw

Preston 1-1 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It's the story of the season.

I don't know how many goals they've gifted through lack of concentration but we've seen another one today.

It's a sad way to end the season. We haven't lost but you look back at all the points we've dropped through bad management this year - it's another one today.

FULL TIME: PRESTON 1-1 LEEDS

And so, Leeds round off their season with a draw.

A lovely penalty from Chris Wood was the difference for 14 minutes, before Scott Wootton's mistake allowed Jordan Hugill to equalise.

Preston 1-1 Leeds

A great chance for Chris Wood goes begging - he gets himself on the right side of the ball but nods it wide of the post. Wood can't believe he's missed that.

Preston 1-1 Leeds

A late corner for Leeds thanks to some superb play form Ronaldo Vieira, who keeps the ball moving and out for a corner.

BreakingGOAL HUGILL: PRESTON 1-1 LEEDS

Scott Wootton's season has just ended in horrible fashion as he gives Preston a goal.

Wootton lost the ball to Jordan Hugill, who couldn't find Eoin Doyle with his first touch but hammered his second past Marco Silvestri.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Third and final change for Leeds, as Stuart Dallas comes off and 17-year-old Ronaldo Vieira makes his debut.

We've got three minutes of added time ahead.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Adam Reach was definitely off-side there: he ran in from the wrong angle as he turned it past Marco Silvestri. That's given the Leeds fans something else to cheer.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Superb again from Marco Silvestri as he bats away Calum Wood's strike with one-hand, before Adam Reach finds the net and is duly flagged off-side.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Preston are pushing for an equaliser as Paul Huntington heads across goal, before Marco Silvestri holds Daniel Johnson's curling strike.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Preston 0-1 Leeds

That's great work from the Leeds defence as Marco Silvestri saves Paul Gallagher's cross and Sol Bamba heads the rebound out of harm's way. A corner for Preston.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

One single pitch invader after that goal, who was promptly stopped in his tracks by a load of stewards. Leeds keep going though as Scott Wootton takes his man on, and wins the ball back inside the Preston box.

Preston 0-1 Leeds

Mirco Antenucci is having a bit of a sulk over not taking that penalty - he didn't celebrate with Chris Wood and the rest of the players.

Not that that will dampen Chris Wood's spirits. That's 13 goals for the season.

BreakingGOAL WOOD: Preston 0-1 Leeds

There's a good bit of debating between Chris Wood and Mirco Antenucci over who is taking the penalty.

Wood wins, lines it up and slams it high into the back of the net, to the delight of the Leeds fans.

PENALTY LEEDS: Preston 0-0 Leeds

Superb chance for Leeds as Mirco Antenucci rushes across to meet Charlie Taylor's superb cross. He can't get there, Chris Kirkland keeps coming forward and takes out Luke Murphy. That's a penalty...

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Preston win another free-kick as Lewie Coyle trips Callum Robinson up, but Marco Silvestri is quick off his line to smother Paul Gallagher's effort.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Daniel Johnson takes a low free-kick that skims into the box and Callum Robinson smashes the ball into the crowd. Points for enthusiasm, none for hitting the target.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

There's big chants from the away end for both Simon Grayson and Steve Evans, who both give a wave towards the fans. It's been a cracking atmosphere down there.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Another change for Preston, as Alan Browne makes way for Callum Robinson.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Mirco Antenucci has a chance seconds after coming on, as he goes one-on-one with Chris Kirkland. Kirkland is quick off his line though to dive on the ball.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Paul Gallagher knocks an out-swinging corner into Alex Mowatt's path. He knocks it away and then Luke Murphy does the tidying up.

Leeds are making their second substitution, and it's Mowatt who makes way for Mirco Antenucci.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

A quiet few minutes - everyone was enraptured by the bloke crowd surfing in the away stand - as Preston come forward yet again.

Preston 0-0 Leeds

Leeds concede a corner that Daniel Johnson blazes over the bar, before Jermaine Beckford is replaced by Eoin Doyle. There's a lovely reception from both ends as they give him a standing ovation.
