The £19 million restoration of Halifax's historic Piece Hall is running behind schedule.

Halifax Piece Hall was due to open in Spring 2016 with a redesigned courtyard
Calderdale Council

The Grade One listed building, which dates back to 1779, was closed in 2014 to allow it to be transformed into a major attraction with cafes, shops, bars and restaurants.

It was due to be reopened this summer but Calderdale Council leader Tim Swift says this deadline will now not be met.

We're disappointed that we could not keep to the original time scales. But, not completely surprised.. It's a complicated project and there were some difficulties. You have a building that was built 250 years ago - you can't look at plans and expect them to show your everything you're going to find.. We want to see it open as soon possible but we also want to get it right."
