Leeds charity damaged by rain after roof tiles theft

Thieves have stolen roof tiles from the home of an anti-poverty charity in Leeds.  

St Vincent's Support Centre has suffered severe damage to the inside of the building due to the heavy rain last night

The vandalism has come just days before the charity is due to hold its official opening with the Lord Mayor and Bishop of Leeds following a recent move to the premises.

On Saturday:

  • Roundhay Park: Princes Avenue closed to through traffic from 05:00 to 15:00 
  • Old Park Road on-site traffic management and restricted on-street parking. 
  • Park Avenue and West Avenue disruption to normal traffic 

On Sunday: 

  • Roundhay Park to city centre: From 03:30 with a controlled reopening from 05:00 
  • Within the city centre: From midnight on Saturday until midnight on Sunday

Latest claims in the Leeds United sex discrimination tribunal

The barrister in the sex discrimination case against Leeds United has disputed a former employee's claims that she's been made unemployable.

Lucy Ward used to be the club's education and welfare officer but was sacked when her partner, former coach Neil Redfearn, lost his job.

Miss Ward won her sex discrimination case against Leeds United and today the tribunal is sitting to decide how much compensation she'll get.

Under cross-examination, she says she's approached Yorkshire clubs to work in similar positions, but with no joy. She says that her sacking has left her stigmatised in the jobs market.

The funeral procession will start at 14:00 and from 19:00 there will be live coverage of Ali’s memorial service. It is expected that there will also be coverage of celebrations marking Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday during the same period.

Former Leeds United Education and Welfare Officer Lucy Ward is unlikely to find out today how much she's been awarded in compensation after being sacked by the club.

The employment tribunal panel which makes the decision, has adjourned to read witness statements, but says that a judgement is unlikely to be reached today.

Man jailed for 150mph car chase on A1 with girl, 3, in back seat

A man caught driving at speeds of up to 150mph with a three-year-old girl in his car during a police chase has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Footage shows Thomas Birkbeck, 31, swerving in and out of traffic and hitting several vehicles after failing to stop on the A1.

'Toxic environment' at Leeds United

Sacked former Leeds United employee Lucy Ward has been explaining what life was like at the club.

Miss Ward, who won her claim for unfair dismissal due to sexual discrimination, told the employment tribunal remedy hearing that it was a "toxic environment."

She added: "Mr Cellino orchestrated people at the club to lie about me. People who are still there."

he Elland Road Park and Ride will be open from 07:00 to 19:00 pm on Sunday 12 June. 

A shuttle bus service between Roundhay Park and the city centre will operate on Sunday from 05:30 to 20:30. Provided by First, the shuttle will run every six to 10 minutes from the Leeds Eastgate layby travelling via York Road, Oakwood Lane and Easterly Road before dropping off and picking up by Oakwood Clock.

Trains will have additional capacity on Sunday for the Triathlon but are expected to be very busy into and out of Leeds, so people are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.   

Cellino regrets not apologising sooner

Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino has told a tribunal remedy hearing that he regrets taking so long to apologise to former employee Lucy Ward.

Miss Ward, who used to be the club's education and welfare officer, won her sex discrimination case against Leeds United after being sacked.

The tribunal remedy hearing has heard from Lucy Ward.

Miss Ward, who won her sex discrimination case against Leeds United in April, told the tribunal that her sacking was "as hurtful as it could be."

She went on to say: "This has changed my life. It's destroyed my confidence. I should be doing the job I love. It's that unfair."

The club's barrister told the hearing that Miss Ward had been sent an apology letter in which owner Massimo Cellino apologised for the mistakes which were made.

Miss Ward said the club had previously had 10 months to say sorry publicly.

Bradford City boss confirmed as Bolton Manager

Phil Parkinson has been confirmed as the new manager of Bolton Wanderers after nearly five years at the helm in Bradford.

Parkinson has signed a two-year deal after a compensation package was agreed between the two clubs. He's joined by assistant Steve Parkin. 

The appointment was confirmed by Bolton at 09:00 this morning. City are yet to comment.

The employment tribunal remedy hearing where former Leeds United Education and Welfare Officer Lucy Ward will find out her settlement after winning her case for sex discrimination and unfair dismissal against the club has adjourned while witness statements are being read by the panel.

Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino met the club's legal team prior to the hearing but then left before it started. 

The club's barrister Lucy Bairstow explained his absence as being due to his concern over the press attention.

Ms Ward and her partner ex Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn are both at the hearing in Leeds.

The tribunal into the sacking of former Leeds United employee Lucy Ward has heard why the club owner Massimo Cellino declined to give evidence in person.

Mr Cellino's lawyer said the Italian believed press attention meant he was unable to deliver his evidence personally.

He has submitted a written statement.

In April Miss Ward won her case for unfair dismissal and sex discrimination against the club.

She claimed she was sacked because she was former head coach Neil Redfearn's partner.

Five men are now in custody, including a man aged 31, who was arrested last night. 

Two men arrested earlier have been released on bail.

World Triathlon comes to Leeds this weekend

Leeds will host the prestigious International World Triathlon this Sunday.

The elite Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds 2016 event will follow the standard Olympic distance of 1.5km swim in Roundhay Park’s Waterloo Lake, before the athletes head into the city centre on a 40km bike ride, finishing with a 10km run around the iconic city centre.
